"your existence gives me a headache. go stand over there."
On Christmas Eve, Ambrosia and Cleo, with the help of James, Sirius, and their trusty Marauders map, helped sneak Indiana and Luna into the Gryffindor common room, which truthfully wasn't as hard as they thought it would be.
Because they were the only Gryffindors that stayed for Christmas, it was nice having the entire tower to themselves. They all stayed up extremely late by the fire, drinking hot chocolate that Winky the house elf had brought up to them and telling all kinds of stories.
The clock chimed 12, meaning that it was already Christmas. The 9 friends tiredly clinked their mugs of cocoa together in cheers, taking long sips and smiling at one another, realizing just how good their lives were at this moment, and wishing it would last forever.
They all fell asleep in the common room, mainly on top of each other. Peter had passed out behind the couch, knowing really knowing how he had gotten there. Ambrosia, Indiana, and Lily were all cuddled up close together near the heat of the fire, with Lily on the outside. And where Lily Evans was, James Potter was not far. He had fallen asleep relatively close, his hand sprawled out across the floor, he and Lily's fingertips brushing together, but of course, no one was awake to notice.
Nor were they awake to notice Luna sit close to Remus, who had fallen asleep sitting upright, his back against the wall. As she dozed off, the blonde girl's head had rested itself on his chest, and there they stayed.
Sirius had taken up the entire couch unconsciously. His feet were actually piled in Cleo's lap, as she had dozed off sitting upright with her head propped up by her hand on the couch's arm. When the clock struck 2 in the morning, Sirius groggily opened his eyes to the sound and looked around slightly. He muttered a small "oops" when he saw how much room he had taken up, which of course, no one heard, before he slowly sat up and grabbed a hold of her shoulders gently. He pulled her down with him until she was cuddled into his side, the both of them now laid out across the warm red couch. She hadn't woken at all, hadn't fluttered an eyelid, and Sirius found himself immediately dozing off again, barely awake to begin with as he rested his head in the crook of her neck and once again fell into a deep sleep.
The sunlight streamed through the window the next morning, casting a hazy glow upon the common room as the 8 teenager's bodies all slept soundly. Peter had woken up before everyone else and was far too excited about Christmas to let them sleep the entire morning.
"Wake up you guys! It's Christmas, c'mon! Get up!" he yelled, his voice echoing through the empty common room. He was returned with several sleepy groans of annoyance, but no one had made any move to wake up. He frowned, but suddenly, he had an idea.
He transfigured quickly into his animagus and managed to crawl his way up onto the couch. He looked for a moment at both Sirius and Cleo's sleeping figures, Sirius' arms wrapped tightly around Cleo as she snuggled deep into his chest. His face was buried in her hair and their legs were tangled together sweetly.
It almost made him feel bad, but he quickly pushed the thought away and all at once jumped onto Sirius' foot. He ran up his leg and then squeezed himself in between Cleo and Sirius as best he could. With a squeak and a little nip, Sirius' eyes fluttered open, only to come face to face with a small rat peering up at him. He gave an inhuman shriek, his eyes widening as he pushed the closest thing to him away as he jumped up quickly.
That closest thing was Cleo, who all at once went flailing off the couch and landed directly on top of all three of the sleeping girls' bodies. They groaned at Cleo's added weight on top of them, but she didn't have time to register any of that, because all at once, James had woken up in a fit of desperation.
"I'll save you, Lily!" He shouted tiredly and fell on top of both Cleo and the other girls. Sirius, who had jumped up onto the nearest table because of the rat, forgetting about the animagus gift Peter had managed before, was screaming like a small child as Peter scurried across the floor. He jumped onto Luna's shoulder, who opened her steely grey eyes and with a small shriek, swiped her hand across her shoulder that sent Peter flying.
Remus, of course now awake, opened one eye slightly, taking in Sirius screaming on the table, a rat that was Peter scurrying across the room, a pile of humans on the floor as they all wrestled and squirmed on top of each other, and Luna who had stood up and was now trying to grab the nearest heavy object she could as she chased the rodent around in an attempt to kill it. He closed his eyes again and settled back into the wall with a tired sigh, hoping the chaos would just go away if he ignored it all.
Peter, on the other hand, had now realized his mistake. For now, he was being chased by a terrifyingly angry Ravenclaw who had grabbed the largest book she could and was flinging it at him as he tried to scurry to safety. He all at once ran up the stairs to the boys' dormitory, knowing that she wouldn't be able to go up there because of the enchanted stairs, and turned back into a human quickly.
"Where the hell did it go?" Luna growled, looking around. Sirius was looking around too from his spot on top of the table, and he managed to stop screaming. Remus had fallen back asleep, not to anyone's surprise, and the pile of humans on the floor were struggling.
"Indie, move your leg-"
"Cleo, I swear to God if you don't-"
"Potter, touch me one more time and I'll break your hand-"
"Guys, what's going on?" Peter came down the stairs, pretending to rub his eyes as if he hadn't been the cause of all of this.
"There was a fucking rat running around, and I'm going to kill it if it's the last thing I do-" Luna spat, her voice the loudest it probably had been in years.
"Luna, it's Christmas, be nice," Remus scolded softly without opening his eyes.
"But the-" she tried to yell.
"Sshhhh," Remus replied quietly. "It's Christmas."
"See Evans? You're missing out, we could wake up like this every morning if you'd only give me a chance," James said. Somehow, the group managed to get untangled, and while Indie and Cleo both sat, panting with their backs against the couch, Ambrosia was facedown on the floor, her body sprawled out like a starfish. Lily had sat up too, but James had his head in her lap as he looked up at her with a cheeky smile while her face turned the color of her hair and she sat, annoyed beyond compare.
Sirius muttered a quiet, "nice one, James," and James tilted his head slightly to send a wink at Sirius standing on the table before his attention went back to Lily.
"Sirius, why are you on the table?" Cleo asked, Indiana's grin growing wide as the two already knew, along with everyone else, that Sirius was the one who had been shrieking like a child up there.
"Oh, you know, I was getting on higher ground to... see where the rat could've gone... you know, helping Luna out," he mumbled, stepping awkwardly off the table as everyone snickered.
"I do not," Lily gasped, "want to wake up... like that... EVER again."
"Have I ever told you, you look absolutely stunning when you wake up by the way?" James complimented.
"Shut up, Potter."
