"you never look good trying to make others look bad"

Finally, after a long time of late nights in the library and early morning study sessions in the common room, O.W.Ls were over, and no one could be happier than Cleo. She usually kept fantastic marks, but all of the added stress of her parents and her extra lessons with Dumbledore, all she wanted to do was relax before she had to go home for the summer, and she was terrified of what she might find there.

She lay underneath a tree near the Black Lake on a Saturday, her eyes closed. She watched the sun dance behind her eyelids, creating a warm glow to envelop her insides. She was trying her hardest not to think about her parents, but it was a difficult task. Nonetheless, she sighed, enjoying the peace and quiet while she could.

And then everything went downhill from there.

She heard an almost inhuman screech of fright, and then James and Sirius laughing. That can't be good, she thought

Cleo sat up with a groan and looked around, and found one thing that she feared seeing the most: James and Sirius up front, and she could make out Remus and Peter lagging behind along with a group of other students. They were all laughing, and James had his wand pointed to something floating in the air. Cleo squinted and saw that instead of a something, it was a someone.

She jumped to her feet fast and started running across the courtyard to the group of boys holding Severus Snape upside down in the air.

"James!" she screeched as she ran towards them. "James put him down!"

Cleo loved her friends. No, she adored them, to death. But the one thing she simply couldn't tolerate, from anyone, was bullying.

"Hey Cleopatra, here to join the fun?" Sirius sniggered as he looked towards her, but soon his smile fell off at the sight of her fuming face.

"How dare you! All of you! James put him down this instant!"

"No can do, Cleo, Snivellus here needs to be taught a lesson," James sneered. Cleo turned to Remus, knowing that if anyone was going to get him to stop, it was him.

"Why aren't you doing anything?" she asked him, her blue eyes full of angry tears. She hated bullying.

"Cleo, I-" Remus started, but a loud shriek interrupted.

"Potter!" and there, across the field, was an angry Lily Evans, her face almost as red as her hair as she marched over. "Put him down this instead, you prick," she growled. If Cleo had known James would listen to Lily above everyone else, she would've gone to her first.

James sighed and dropped Severus nearly on his head. Lily rushed to him to help him up, but he pushed her away.

"Get away from me, I don't need help from filthy mudbloods like you and Markis," he growled, his face fierce but his eyes looked sad. Lily gasped and backed away, watching him in shock and hurt.

"You're gonna regret ever saying that, Snape," James snarled, lifting his wand again.

"James stop!" Lily yelled and rushed to him, grabbing his arm and pushing his wand into the sky instead of at the boy.

"Lily, what he called you was-"

"Just words Potter. Leave him alone, before I hex you myself." There was nothing wavering in Lily's deep green eyes that told him she was lying. He backed off slightly, and Lily all but shoved his hand back to him. Severus had already run off, and Lily looked at everyone standing before her.

"You all are disgusting, getting off on something as sick as making someone else's life miserable," she said, not looking at Cleo which meant she was probably excluded from all of this. "I expected this from everyone here, but Remus," Lily shook her head. "You could've stopped them."

Lily walked away. The group was in silence and everyone looked around at each other. James was still fuming, pacing around slightly. He couldn't believe Snape called Lily and Cleo what he did, and he swore that no matter what, he would regret it.

"Cleo," Remus reached to her, seeing her stare absently at the ground. She flinched away and looked up, her eyes so big and sincere it made Remus want to curl up on the ground.

"She was right you know," she said quietly. "You could've stopped them." Then she looked briefly towards Sirius, her best friend, the person she has loved for 5 years of her life, and she closed her eyes and shook her head before walking after Lily, leaving her only group of friends behind.
