Marlene, at some point in time, probably.

It was already a few weeks in to their sixth year at Hogwarts, and already, Cleo was finding it easier to stay caught up in her studies than other years. What with her recurring nightmares, she hardly ever slept, and grew accustomed to staying up all night and studying to keep her busy. What little time she did have for homework during the day was spent in the common room, or sometimes underneath the tree by the black lake, attempting to catch up on sleep that just simply wouldn't come.

One evening, she sat alone by the water, feeling the peace of the breeze gently drift across her face. She watched the lightly rippling water, saw the glimmering sunlight reflected off the waves. She closed her eyes, taking in a deep breath as she furrowed her eyebrows. Very quickly, she was transported back to her home. The stench of mildew and death poisoned the air. The darkness, the screaming.

She opened her eyes and looked down at her lap, pulling up the sleeve of her right arm. She stared at the letters carved into the skin, rubbed her thumb against the ragged flesh. She trailed her fingers lightly across every letter and scowled down at it.

"There's something wrong with James," someone huffed and all at once plopped down beside her, making her jump and quickly shove her sleeve back down her arm. Lily sat, her arms crossed over her chest as she glowered at the water. Cleo looked at her innocently.

"Okay?"

She sighed angrily. "He's being nice to people, and he isn't as loud and obnoxious as he usually is. He's up to something."

"Well," Cleo started, trying to hide her amusement. "Maybe you should embrace the new James, maybe he's trying to change."

"I don't care what he's doing, I don't like him and I never will. But he's up to something."

"Um..." Cleo tried to come up with something to say, but a loud barking cut her off. A shaggy black dog came bounding up beside the girls.

"Hey Siri-" she started, but the dog growled dangerously and its dark eyes glanced over to the redhead beside her. "I mean, Snuffles," she said, smirking amusedly as the dog huffed and laid down beside them.

"I didn't know we had dogs here," Lily said, and leaned over to scratch behind the dog's ears.

"Yeah, we have deer too," Cleo commented, not taking her eyes off the water.

"Really?" Lily was astounded. She had never seen a deer on the grounds before, but she would very much like to.

"Mhm," Cleo hummed. "And rats." She glared at the water before the dog let out a bark of warning, no doubt.
