"Don't forget, somewhere between hello and goodbye, there was love. so much love."
The spring had come and it had passed. No one thought it would come this quickly, but here they were, planning to graduate and begin their lives away from Hogwarts. It was all a terrifying thought, and one that Cleo couldn't seem to overcome.
Things at Hogwarts for the remaining months after Christmas had been bleak and lonely for Cleo. Sirius, the love of her life and her former best friend, hadn't spoken to her in months. Cleo's heart was still healing from everything she'd been through, but her scars were reopened the night Sirius told her he didn't love her. Now she was bleeding, and she hadn't quite figured out how to make it stop yet.
Besides him, she had lost James. And Lily, for that matter. A week after they all got back from the Potter's home for Christmas, they professed their love for one another. James finally had the girl he had been chasing since first year, and he didn't really need anyone else. Of course, they still spoke and laughed, but somehow, it wasn't the same. The rift between her and Sirius caused a lateral rift in the group themselves, and it was hard for her friends to pick sides. Of course, she never asked them to, but it was clear that the majority of them were at a loss and stuck with Sirius more.
The girls stuck by her, though, and she was thankful. Cleo had Luna, of whom she would be forever grateful for. And of course, Remus never picked sides. He was equally at peace with all of them, and he and Cleo were still best friends.
As for he and Luna, they weren't seeing each other, but they weren't quite dating other people, either. It was complicated to define, but anyone that could see the way they looked at each other knew it was simple; they were in love.
Cleo sat in the library with Ambrosia and Luna one afternoon, on their 8th day of studying for N.E.W.Ts. They were about to give out, and both Cleo and Ambrosia sat with their heads on the books in front of them, eyes glossy as they skimmed the pages without fully retaining the information. Luna still sat rigid in her chair, muttering to herself as she took notes like a proper Ravenclaw.
Ambrosia moved her head so that she was face down in the book, and then began to let out a groan that echoed through the library.
"Shush," Luna said casually, her eyes not leaving the book. Ambrosia looked up, glaring at the blonde before sighing and putting her face back down.
"I second what Ambrosia said," Cleo sighed, lifting her head to sit up. "I'm exhausted, if I reread this page one more time, I'm gonna rip it out and eat it."
"That's new," Ambrosia said, sitting up as well. "Do it." Cleo gave her a look.
Luna looked up, stopping her quill (finally) from frantically writing across pages of parchment laid out in front of her. "Then take a break."
