{please forgive me}
The next morning at breakfast had been a grave one. The sky was cloudy and dark, the rain falling outside like heavy stones. Even the enchanted sky in the Great Hall was gloomy, and Cleo sighed when she entered. She hardly slept a wink, too frightened for the safety of her friends and riddled by the prospect of everything to even try.
It seemed she wasn't the only one, either. James, Sirius, and Peter were all drooping their heads propped up on their hands at the breakfast table. Peter had his eyes closed and was snoring lightly. Sirius and James sat across from each other, each one looking tired and restless and not speaking. She sat down beside Sirius and looked at them, noting that they both stared distantly at different places with dark bags under their eyes.
"Good morning," she mumbled quietly, trying to gently shake them out of their stupor. Apparently, it worked.
"What the bloody hell is wrong with you?" Sirius asked her, shaking his head.
"Is it not a good morning?" she asked, attempting to lighten the mood.
"Why were you out there Cleo?" James asked, sounding tired and disappointed. Cleo sighed.
"He sounded too close to the castle, I just wanted to-"
"You could've gotten hurt last night, Cleo. Do you have any idea how dangerous it was for you to be out there?" Sirius scolded. Cleo had never seen him so angry before in her life.
"Well its not like anything happened-"
"But it could have!" he shouted, slamming his fists on the table. The Great Hall hushed and Peter jumped awake and let out a shrill shriek. Sirius leaned in close. "Do you have any idea what I would have done if you had gotten hurt?" he whispered, his eyes turning desperate and sad. "I would have killed Remus if he had hurt you. I don't want to lose either one of you," he said and stood up.
"Sirius..." she tried to say, but she closed her eyes and choked. He walked out of the Great Hall, not bothering to touch any breakfast. Cleo opened her eyes to look at James, who looked sad as well.
"He would have, you know," he said too, and stood up as well. "I'm gonna go check on Remus," he mumbled, and trudged out of the Great Hall behind Sirius.
"I thought what you did was kind of brave," Peter pitched in after everyone had gone and the table was getting awkward. "Terribly stupid, but you know, kind of brave." Cleo squeezed her eyes shut but forced out a smile.
"Thanks Peter."

None of the dreadful moods had changed throughout the course of the day. It seemed like everyone was on edge, antsy, and just downright agitated. It was also awfully hard to get through classes as she tried to joke with others who simply wouldn't laugh.
