Chapter 13 ~ Matthew route 1 ~ The secret that your power holds

Another note, I noticed a tad to late I missed copying a few lines from Erik's path. (ok... half a page...) They are in there now at the bottom where they should be.]]

The hot bath was refreshing although it was the short cold shower I took afterwards that slowly made me forget last night's ordeals.

When arriving in the dining room however I was immediately looked at by all five brothers. ''Are you feeling well now?'' James asked with a serious expression on his face to which I nodded. ''I feel fine now, especially after having bathed.'' I noticed Erik gesturing at a plate which had two pieces of buttered toast and I nodded in thanks before sitting down. ''Could you tell us more about the nightmare? Erik told us what you told him but in the state you were in when he found you it is nothing strange if you have left anything out.''

''James do you really need to ask? You can see it is upsetting her...'' Sam protested but he stopped talking when I rose my hand. ''Thank you Sam but I'll manage. It was just a dream.'' I replied and sat down. ''What I found most strange is that I do not recall falling asleep. I was simply working on the dishes.'' I started and took a bite of my toast before explaining what I had seen and felt in the nightmare till the moment where Erik found me. I had some small breaks in the story which I used to eat my late breakfast. The atmosphere while I told the story was tense, mainly around Sam but he kept his composure.

''[___], despite a very vivid nightmare I think that is all there is to it. But to be certain, with your permission I'd like to put a mind barrier on you. It will prevent unwanted entities from reaching your dreams and thoughts.'' he offered.

''I do not mind but would like to think on it for a bit. We do not know what I am and it could retaliate in a bad way to you. I wouldn't want that.'' I replied to him and finished my tea.

James nodded in understanding and there was no disappointment on his face. ''Understood Miss, the offer stands so come visit me when you know what you would like to do.'' I nodded to James in return and looked at Matthew. ''Seeing as I robbed Erik from some precious sleep, mind if I come with for grocery shopping instead of him?'' I asked to which Matthew grinned. ''Sure. We do not need that much though but the company is appreciated. As Matthew got on his feet so did I and looked at James. ''I'll let you know my decision tonight'' I told him to which James replied that if I needed more time he would not mind either.

The grocery shopping helped getting my mind off the nightmare again but I could not help but being quiet. ''[___]? Are you feeling alright?'' Matthew asked me when we just finished putting the groceries in the car. All that was left was going to the butcher's shop for meat. ''I am fine Matthew.'' I assured him with a smile.

''Come. We have one more place to go. But I feel like taking a detour.'' Matthew said with a grin. ''When one of my brothers is with me I never get to do this but I think we both can use some distraction.''

I thought for a moment. ''Matthew. How is the Halloween plush toy development going.'' I asked and grinned the moment I saw his expression drop. ''Hit the nail on the head?'' I asked to which he nodded. ''I do not know why but I find myself incapable of making good ones this year. The past few years went fine so I do not understand what is different.'' he sighed and took his phone probably to send a message to one of his brothers to notify them we would be back later than planned. ''So, perhaps after a bit of distraction we both feel better. Let's get some lunch first though.'' he suggested.

''Alright Matthew, I will play along and pretend not to have figured out that this was planned all along. Where are we headed.'' I asked.

Matthew's expression was surprised. ''You realised so quickly? Ahw man... what gave it away.'' he asked to which I laughed.
