''Michael do not go to far! Stay with your sister!'' A mother called after her son who started to run at something he found interesting. A girl a few years older than the boy ran after him into the haunted house close to where I was stationed. I could not help but stare at the mother and her son before I had to get back in my witch character. ''Worry not mother dear. In this house there is nothing to fear. If their hearts are pure the treasure they shall reach. But if not it is they who shall be eaten each.'' Erik said in a sly seductive voice that suited him and his character; he was portraying Lucifer. So bold even he was in his demon form, his lower naked half concealed however by faun hooves and leggings. It was fun entertaining the kids. They really came from everywhere. Leylia, Bleys and the others had shown up as well and decided to help out in the spooky garden. James was portraying as a headless horseman, his length really helped with this. Sam was using his speed to scare the children in the haunted house. Damien was in the haunted house too pretending to be a butcher chopping into props. Fortunately they were not looking too realistic. Matthew was dressed as some sort of puppet maker with cursed dolls and would be found at a later point in the haunted mansion. He had created a few dolls for this evening although a hand full seemed to have a will of their own.
At half past ten however we slowly started to put an end to it. Most of the ones who had come here were in the garden where they were being entertained by a few employees of Anderson toys. Nobody at the least was in the house at the moment. At the least we thought. ''I am sorry but have you seen my son Cody?...'' A woman asked. ''He entered the haunted mansion with me but we got separated. I was hoping he was here in the garden but I can not find him... he is six years old...'' she said seeing I exited the house last. ''I will take a look. Stay here in case he is outside or went the way back towards the front door'' I said. Before I had entered the house again Matthew had found me. ''What is wrong?'' he asked. ''That woman's son has not exited the house. They were together but they lost sight of one another. Perhaps he hid somewhere or got lost.'' I said and he smiled. ''Let's find him together then.'' he said and the woman thanked us before Matthew and I started searching. Matthew being clever enough to ask some of his toys to help look for him. Many rooms had been locked so he could not have gone into those.
''Cody! Are you here?'' Matthew asked. I could hear him call from somewhere in the mansion. I could not find him on the initial route so I looked a bit further after taking the witch's hat and nose off. If the child was scared my outfit was not going to help me much in decreasing his fear. ''Please please stay away!'' I heard a young boy call. It seemed to come from the dining room to which I headed. It was dark still making it difficult to see. ''Anyone in here?'' I asked. ''Please help me... the dolls they... they are after me!'' I heard a fearful voice. It took me a moment to realize the boy hid under the piano, having moved around a couple of black sheets. With the little amount of light that was there when I moved the sheets away I saw a fearful young boy dressed. One of Matthew's dolls which was a female ball jointed doll which just like Ignis could move around tried to get close. The boy however had a broom prop in his hands. ''It will be alright.'' I said looking at the doll. She seemed broken, but made that way and simply reached her arms out. I reached the doll first taking her in my arms. ''You see? She is harmless.'' I said and gently put her dress right. ''But... she was following me.'' the boy said. ''Your name is Cody right? Come. Take my hand. It is perfectly safe. Of course if you wish I can speak a little spell if you are still uncomfortable.'' I said as I reached my hand out. He needed a good minute to consider this and after he and I were no longer under the piano we simply sat down. ''Are you not an evil witch?'' Cody asked. ''I do not see myself as an evil witch. And you seem to thin to eat.'' I said as I tapped his nose. ''Indeed, to thin. You will have to come back next year.'' I said and surprisingly he giggled. He stopped doing so when seeing the doll still in my other arm. ''I have always feared dolls. They make me feel like I am watched. How is it possible she followed me whole the way here though.'' he asked. ''Well, these are mechanic toys. Someone controls them from a distance.'' I said. ''See? I turned her off now. She doesn't move mymore.'' I put her on my lap and Cody still seemed sceptical. I for one just hoped he believed the lie. I could not think of a better one for now. ''Will you tell my mom?'' Cody suddenly asked. ''That I am afraid of dolls I mean...'' he added. ''Of course not. Although, I do not think that your mother will laugh at you for being scared of dolls. Many times they also make grown ups uncomfortable.'' I said. ''Really?'' he asked and I nodded. ''Are you afraid of them?'' Cody asked. ''No. I love dolls. This one too.'' I said with a smile. ''But... they are so creepy...'' Cody said. ''Well, do you find me creepy?'' I asked and he shook his head. ''And what about when I still had the had and nose on.'' I asked. This time he nodded. ''Most of the costumes here are scary.'' he admitted. ''We may look scary but it does not have to mean that we have bad intentions. If this doll was alive I'd say she was brave.'' I said with a smile. ''Why?'' Cody asked. ''Well, she is small. You are tall. You had a broom too you perhaps could have hit her with. If she was alive, she was not here to hurt you or else she would have tried to come at you either way. If she was alive I am certain she wanted to bring you home. Even though she was probably scared herself. But she, she was not able to speak to you either to tell you what her intentions were. Now that I am here. Is she still so scary?'' I asked and offered him the doll. He did not take it though and instead only looked at her. ''She looks... frail.'' he said eventually. ''She does doesn't she. What does her expression tell you?'' I asked making Cody look at me. ''You know it is still a doll right?'' he said. ''Of course I do. But that does not take away my question.'' I answered. Cody sighed and looked at the doll. ''She smiles but... it is not so creepy anymore.'' he said. ''You see? She is not that bad.'' I said and carefully I set her on the piano. ''Come. Let's go to your mother.'' I said offering my hand. ''You said you could do a spell... is there one that will stop me from being scared of the dolls? I mean... there are more out there right?'' he asked.''We can go through the front door if you want. There should be no dolls that way. As for the fear, even with magic I can not fully take the fear away but perhaps give you a bit more courage. Fear Cody, it is not evil. It tells you what your weaknesses are and when you have overcome your fear you are both stronger and possibly kinder too. And when you overcome it you can also protect others.'' I said making him look at me. ''I will do the spell then. I did forget my want so I will have to put some more effort in it. I said with a wink. Cody was not sure what to expect but certainly did not expect me to sing.
