Chapter 20 ~ James route 6 ~ What love is to us

I could hear Waltz' voice but was not able to make out what he said. ''[___] please... don't leave me'' James voice echoed in my head. ''What do you think you're doing..'' Waltz asked. ''She is still a Succubus. I should be able to give her energy right?'' James asked. ''It does not work like that with her...'' Waltz protested. ''I do not want to lose her. I... I love her...'' ''Let's put that to the test then.''Waltz said. I could feel something soft and warm on my lips. The cold feeling vanished from my body as a stream of warmth made its way through my veins. Never before had I felt this and it made me wonder if this was how taking energy from someone felt. My eyes opened briefly and realised that James was kissing me. I had no idea why but it made me feel happy. I placed my hand in his hair and he broke the kiss. His body was trembling and before I passed out again I whispered his name.

The sheets were a bit stiff and the fabric was different from what I was used to. In the air was a scent of herbs and I heard the sound of water dripping followed by a cloth gently pressed against my brow, cheek and neck. I somehow managed to move although it wasn't easy. I managed to open my eyes immediately locking eyes with James who sighed in relief. ''You are awake... good. Are you feeling better?'' he asked. ''Raestrao...'' I did not answer his question but saying his true name made him smile. I wanted to sit up but got pushed back against the mattress gently. ''Take it easy you doofus.'' Sam said who I saw sitting on a chair beside the bed as well. ''Where am I...'' I asked. James placed the cloth in a bowl of water before gently pressing it on my skin again. ''You're at the hospital.'' Damien said ''The hospital... what am I doing here.'' suddenly I remembered again. The lights going out in the school, the devils and me running with Leylia. ''Leylia... where is she? Is she alright?'' I asked unable to suppress the panic in my voice. ''Easy Miss.'' James said and I looked at him. ''Your friend is fine. She only had some minor burns and the experience clearly spooked her. Waltz used magic to heal her wounds just in case. Also he altered her memories a bit to prevent Angels baptising her.'' Matthew explained. ''Wait... Waltz?'' I asked and James nodded. ''He is not human. It is best if he explains however. He asked of me not to tell you.'' James said. Knowing Leylia was alright made me relax again. The events were still a bit fuzzy though and all I had were parts. ''I remember calling for you... what happened after that.'' I asked. ''Me learning the valuable lesson not to play with my prey.'' James admitted. From his expression I could tell he felt guilty. ''You helped me with magic I had never seen before and you collapsed after that. I finished the job however and Waltz showed up who took care of some devils who fled. When the fight was over he healed you. With the fire alarm however the police was already involved so to prevent having to alter memories and think up a good story that fit the circumstances we got you and Leylia to the hospital with an ambulance while the surviving devils were taken into custody by Sam after Waltz did something to them.'' ''Devils in a human jail. Are they not able to get out with ease?'' I asked. ''Your creepy mentor used a conversion spell. He did not explain to me what it exactly did but the devils are never going to be able to use magic again.'' Sam assured. ''Speaking of magic, what were you thinking using the magic that you did. Where did you learn it anyway.'' Erik asked. It was not a question yet I felt like I had to answer. ''It just... came to me. I don't even know what I did or what the effects were but it felt like the right thing to do to help James.'' I replied. James smiled and caressed my cheek. ''Do not use it again. Please Miss. Not unless you know what you're doing.'' I tried sitting up again and this time Sam did not stop me. ''I agree Angel. This time you were lucky. But if spells do that to you it is best not to use them. Magic is after all not a toy.'' Erik said. I was not sure if he scolded me or not but it certainly sounded like it. ''I promise.'' I said with a smile which made the brothers smile as well.

I was quickly discharged from the hospital although did have to take it easy. I took the opportunity to get a lot of rest and think. Those who investigated the events at the school also interviewed me but I did not tell them anything new. Last thing that I wanted was making them think I knew about magic, neither did they have to know I was a Succubus or the brothers incubi. Waltz was absent as well however since the devils had attacked. On a few occasions I had picked up my phone that had been returned to me and wanted to message him but every time I erased the message I was about to send. It was easier thinking that I could separate my magic life from my school life. The latter not sure if I could pick up again. Devils found me before, who said they would not do that once more? I got out the bath and dried myself up before putting on a nightgown and a warmer simple kimono bathrobe. I felt a little anxious and knew I would not be able to sleep so went to the kitchen to get something to drink. I was not sure what to choose however. The weather outside screamed it was the weather for hot tea but I felt really warm myself and my body was slightly shaking. I decided on making tea however since I liked most flavours both hot and cold. I made a pot of tea and stood by the window feeling the cold from outside going through it.
