Chapter 17 ~ Matthew route ~ Thank you for being you

When I was waiting outside for Sam to show, I had managed to calm myself down. It was cold and windy but I did not have to wait long. When hearing a car arrive I noticed it was not Sams but Matthews car instead. When it had stopped the window went down and I saw Matthew greeting me with a big smile. ''Hey Matthew.'' I said, surprised it was not Sam and stepped towards the car. ''Hey [___]. Sam apologizes, he had to fill in for someone at the station. So I came to pick you up instead.'' he had his goofy grin which made me smile as well. Still I could not hold that smile for long though. Matthew realized something was wrong probably by the way I walked or looked and he got out of the car. ''Hey what is wrong. Did something happen?'' he asked. ''Matthew... I...'' Matthew hugged me close and I could feel the heat of his body though his clothes. ''Are you feeling sad?'' Matthew asked and I shook my head. Sad was not the right word. ''I... remembered something. From before meeting you and the others...'' I said softly. ''You did?... that is the first time isn't it...'' he said and I nodded. ''What did you remember. Something scary?'' he asked and I shook my head. But did not answer his question either. He waited for me to speak but when he realized I didn't he patted my back gently. ''Come. Let's go home.'' he said and I nodded.

In the car he looked at me briefly before driving off. He did not ask, at the least not verbally. ''I have a younger brother.'' I said eventually. ''You have what?'' he asked. If he did not have to focus on the road he probably would have looked at me. ''The image was blurry but the voices weren't. He... refused to eat food from the Demonworld. So I brought him something from the Human World instead. He got so excited hearing I had been there that he wanted to see it too so... I told him that I would, when he finished his food.'' I said before I chuckled. ''He called me the best sister in all the worlds.'' I sighed. ''What kind of sister forgets her brother.'' I looked down until I felt Matthews hand on mine. It was a straight road so there was not a lot of risk. ''It will be alright.'' Matthew said. ''You did not spoke about a brother though back in the Abyssal Plains so neither me of my brothers know about him. But that you did not speak of him was because knowing you, you probably wanted to protect him. The Demon lord had eyes and ears everywhere it was difficult for my brothers and me to get to you unnoticed as well and of course getting out. But there were things you did tell us.'' Matthew said and I looked at him. ''You mentioned a him a couple of times. That you could not call him because it would endanger his life. When we asked who this him was you never really gave a clear answer. My brothers and I debated whether he was your lover or not. When we asked you you laughed.'' Matthew said with a chuckle. I giggled as well. ''I remember that. I said he was important to me and that once we were in the Human world I hoped I could introduce you guys to him. Still... I don't even know how long ago it has been since I last saw him. For all I know he even hates me. Or maybe the Demon lord did get to him.'' I sighed. ''I do not think so. We may not know yet what occured between the two of you but you did say that he lived in the Human world. So it is safe to say the Demon lord did not get to him. I think he is safe and alive. Waiting for you. So try not to worry. I am sure he and you will be reunited again at some point.'' Matthew gave me a confident grin and I nodded. ''You're right. Thank you Matthew.'' I said with a smile. I looked at the clouded night sky. Wherever he was, I would remember him again and find him.

After Matthew and I got home, it was late. First I wanted to wait for Erik and Sam to come home but this night took so much out of me that after Matthew and I got home and drank some tea I went to bed. After cleaning up the dishes from breakfast I asked the boys to wait to tell them about last night. ''Wait so... you remembered something other than us?'' Sam asked after I just said that I regained a memory of a time before meeting them. He sounded both worried and excited. ''Are you absolutely sure Miss?'' James asked. ''I think [___] knows when she remembers something or not.'' Matthew said. ''What was the memory?'' Erik asked. I was hesitant, and Damien was probably hearing it from my thoughts. ''Hey. Don't feel pressured. If you are still processing it we can wait.'' Sam said calmly. I looked at Matthew who gave me an encouraging nod. ''No I am fine.'' I said and sighed before telling them about what I remembered and it was quiet. ''Wait you... you have a younger brother?'' Sam asked. ''How come you have never told us that in the Abyssal Plains.'' ''It is only speculation but perhaps because in the Demonlord's dungeon I was afraid the wrong ears would hear it.'' I said. ''Although I did seem to speak about a him on occasion. It is safe to say I meant my brother with that.'' ''What triggered it Miss?'' James asked. ''Well... I was serving a customer last night. My mentor to be exact. He was there to visit his friend who owns that café. There was an event where the female staff acts like sisters and male staff as brothers to the customers so I did. My mentor played along with it. My shift was done just after I brought his food so as I went to the back I told him to finish his food to keep his strength up. That was probably what triggered it.'' I replied. ''Well we have come to notice that if you are in similar situations that you are getting memories back. That is how we got most of your memories about us back in the first place.'' James said and pondered. ''Did you remember his name as well?'' Damien asked and I shook my head. ''No I didn't. Maybe it will come back to me at some point.'' I said. ''Don't feel guilty.'' Damien said suddenly. ''You remembered nothing when you woke up after saving us, not even your own name. The devil's hellforged weapon caused that. That you are able to regain memories is a miracle. I do not think that your brother will blame you for forgetting him.'' ''Damien is right Angel.'' Erik added. ''Thank you.'' I said with a smile and sighed. ''Don't worry. You will find him. Heck we will help you do that if we can.'' Sam said with a grin.
