It had been two months. Today marked my first day at Washington State University, studying English Literature. The excitement and nerves coiled in my stomach like a restless snake. Carly had graduated last month — it was a spectacular day. Stephen had come along, but Carly and my dad were still not on good terms. I had no idea why. Carly refused to explain.
"How could you, Dad?! You killed him! You killed Kyle! Did you think I would never find out?!" Her sobs rattled the air, raw and unfiltered.
"Carl... I can explain. Believe me, I just wanted to protect you. I swear!"
"Protect me?! You're a murderer. No, you're the devil himself!" She recoiled as he moved closer.
"Don't touch me!"
"Please, understand. I didn't want him to come back to hurt you. Jail... jail isn't enough for what he did to you. He... he raped you."
"I don't want to hear any more excuses. They're all lies! You love doing this! I don't want to see you, don't call me, don't look for me, and don't try playing dirty... or it's over!" Her words cut through the room like shards of glass as she stormed out.
"Carly! My daughter! Please... don't do this! I just want the best for you, I swear!" He sank to his knees, tears streaming down his face, the weight of his grief pressing against the walls.

You're probably wondering what I had been doing for the past two months... well, crazy sex.
The sound of moans filled the room, thick and heavy.
"Hmm... hmm... Stephen, I have to go. I'll be late for class," I panted, reluctantly pulling away.
"Babe, c'mon. Stay a little. It's just seven. Your lecture starts at eight. You're not late, please, stay." He reached for me, his grip firm.
"I can't."
"You can't go now. Not when I'm high. Stay." His voice was low, insistent, and he tugged me back toward the bed.
"No... stop talking sweet," I hissed, slipping into my pants and trousers.
"I'll fuck another girl if you go," he threatened.
I scoffed, spinning around. "You dare not. I'll cut off your dick."
"Uh..." He laughed, a deep, rumbling sound. "I'll cut yours too. Tell all those guys not to go near that place... or I'll personally tell them." He pointed to my most private spot.
I rolled my eyes, smirking. "I think I'll need to put a poster on my face then. You have a class to attend, don't you?"
"I don't really need to go. In the end, I'm going to inherit my parents' company anyway."
"Don't be lazy, babe. They struggled to get there too. Now stand up and dress."
"I will... I'm just kidding." He pulled on his clothes, finally letting go.
"Let me take you there with my car, okay?"
"Okay."
We kissed briefly, sweet and lingering, before he dropped me off.
"Call me when you're done, okay?"
"Yeah, I will."
I took a deep breath, letting the crisp morning air fill my lungs, and stepped into the lecture hall. Stephen had been right — I was early, but it was okay. First days were meant for showing up ahead of time. I slid into a seat and popped my earpiece in, letting music calm the jittery nerves in my chest.
I didn't even notice when someone walked in.
"Hey."
"H... hey. Sorry, I didn't hear you." I yanked the earpiece from my ear.
"Aren't you early? Lecture starts at nine."
"Really? I thought it started at eight. Why are you early too?" I asked, trying to hide my fluster.
"Just wanted to. You are?"
"Oh... Sharon. What about you?"
"Aaron Smith. Nice to meet you." He offered a warm, easy smile that made my stomach flutter.
