I froze at the classroom door, my heart pounding as I noticed Stephen inside.
What is he doing here? I whispered to myself. Every instinct screamed at me to turn around and leave, to forget the textbook. But I couldn't. I needed it.
Taking a shaky breath, I stepped inside.
"Finally! I've been waiting for you," he said, his voice smooth, almost teasing. "I knew you'd come back for your textbook. Where have you been?" He advanced toward me, each step deliberate, controlled.
"It's none of your business. Give me my textbook." I held out my hands, trying to keep the edge of authority in my voice, though my chest was tightening.
Instead of letting go, he grabbed my hands and pulled me toward him.
"Stephen! What are you doing?" I said, breath catching in my throat.
His face was inches from mine. His presence pressed in on me, overwhelming, intoxicating. He held me tight, leaving no space to escape.
Part of me wanted to push back. Another, darker part wanted him. I did want him. But I couldn't. Not fully.
He leaned closer. I felt the heat of his breath against my lips.
"Stephen... stop it. You have a girlfriend. Please..." My voice trembled, pleading.
"She's not." His words were quiet, but the confidence behind them made my knees weaken.
He pulled me impossibly closer. My resistance melted. My hands found their way to his neck, locking around him as our lips met. Tentatively at first, then with an urgency that scared me.
But when his hands moved toward my skirt, I snapped my head up and shoved them away.
"What do you think you're doing?" I said, furious, my chest heaving. I couldn't believe how far he was pushing.
"I'm... sorry, I got..." His words faltered, unsteady, betraying him.
"Stop! Don't worry. I shouldn't have come here." Panic surged through me, and I shoved past him, bolting from the classroom. My chest felt like it was about to explode from the mixture of adrenaline and shame.
"Sharon! Wait!" His voice followed me, urgent, but I didn't slow down.
"Leave me alone!" I shouted as I raced down the stairs, my mind screaming to get away.
I didn't see the next step in time. My foot caught, and I tumbled, sliding down a few steps. Pain shot through me, and the world tilted.
"Sharon!!!" Stephen's voice rang out, a sharp, panicked shout that made my heart skip even more.
I lay there for a moment, catching my breath, my mind a storm of fear, desire, and frustration. How could I fall for him... again?
