"Holy—mother of God..." Stiles muttered, his voice cracking with shock as he stared at the screen.
I had already gone still.
Too still.
Something inside me had snapped — something primal and violent rising beneath my skin like a storm breaking loose.
⸻
A laugh escaped me — low, sharp, unhinged. I paused the video, my fingers trembling around the remote. The room felt suffocating, the glow of the television painting everything in cold blue light.
"I swear..." I said slowly, my voice trembling with rage, "...I'm going to kill him."
Stiles glanced at me cautiously.
"I'm going to put a bullet through him."
He shook his head, dragging a hand down his face.
"I can't watch this anymore. God... this is insane."
He ejected the CD and turned it over, squinting.
"Wait... there's a number written on it."
My jaw clenched.
"Call it."
Stiles dialed. My heart hammered against my ribs like it wanted out of my chest. I paced the room, fury burning through every nerve.
The call connected.
"Hello," Aaron's voice came through casually.
I snatched the phone.
"I'm going to kill you."
A brief pause — then a laugh.
"Well, well... Stephen Winney, right? I've been expecting your call." His tone was playful, mocking. "Did you enjoy the show?"
My grip tightened.
"You have no idea what I'm going to do to you."
"Oh? Enlighten me."
"I'm going to tear you apart."
He chuckled, clearly entertained.
"Relax. It's just a video. And here's a little secret — that was filmed the night before Sharon's birthday. You remember that night, don't you? When she wasn't home?"
My teeth ground together.
"You're lying."
"Believe whatever helps you sleep," he replied smoothly. "If you're so confident, come see me. Face to face. Stop barking over the phone."
Silence stretched between us, thick and heavy.
"I'm coming," I said finally, my voice cold enough to freeze steel.
He laughed again.
"I'll be waiting."
The line went dead.
⸻
The room fell into quiet stillness.
Stiles stared at me. "You're not seriously going, are you?"
I grabbed my jacket, my movements sharp and restless.
"He wants me there. Fine."
My reflection flickered in the dark TV screen — eyes wild, jaw set, something dangerous lurking behind them.
"He has no idea what he just started."
I headed for the door.
