Rain poured from the sky in relentless sheets, the cold drops striking my skin and soaking through my clothes within seconds. The wind howled across the unfinished bridge, carrying the sharp scent of wet concrete and rusted metal. Streetlights flickered in the distance, their reflections trembling on the dark water far below.
I didn't care that I was drenched.
I didn't care that my teeth were beginning to chatter.
All I could think about was ending it.
I stepped closer to the edge, the world blurring behind tears and rain. My heart pounded wildly — not from fear, but from exhaustion. I was tired of the lies. Tired of the pain.
I was about to let go.
"Sharon! Sharon, don't!"
The scream tore through the storm.
I turned slightly, my vision clouded, and saw Aaron running toward me, breathless and frantic, rain plastering his hair to his forehead.
"Aaron... stop," I said weakly. "It's over."
I shifted forward again, but before I could move, his hand shot out. He grabbed my wrist and yanked me back into his arms. His grip was tight, desperate, shaking.
"How dare you?!" he shouted, his voice cracking with emotion.
His anger broke something inside me. Tears spilled freely, mixing with the rain.
"You want to leave me?" he demanded, holding my arms firmly, searching my face.
"Aaron... you don't understand..."
"What the hell don't I understand?!" he shot back. "You were about to jump right in front of me!"
"I'm not my dad's biological daughter," I sobbed. "And Stephen... he made a bet on me. All this time."
Aaron stared at me, rain streaming down his face.
"So?" he said, softer but intense. "So that means you die? You think everyone just smiles and moves on? Even if everyone lied to you... what about me? Don't you trust me? Have I ever lied to you?"
He covered half his face, breathing unevenly before continuing.
"Can't you see... my feelings for you have been growing every single day?" His voice dropped. "Sharon... I'm in love with you. I've been going crazy since the day I met you."
I blinked, stunned. "Aaron... no. You can't."
"I'm not afraid to say it," he said, his eyes fierce despite the storm. "I love you. I love you, Sharon."
I covered his mouth with my hand, overwhelmed.
"Stop... You can't love me. You can't."
"Why not?" he whispered when I lowered my hand. His palms gently cupped my face, warm despite the cold rain. "I know you feel something too. You've just been afraid to admit it."
"Aaron..."
Before I could finish, his lips met mine.
The kiss was soft at first — hesitant, searching — then deeper, filled with relief, fear, and something unspoken between us. I didn't push him away. Somewhere inside, I realized I had wanted this closeness — the comfort, the warmth — for longer than I admitted.
We clung to each other in the rain, the storm roaring around us as if the world itself were dissolving.
Eventually he pulled back, resting his forehead against mine.
"I think we should go home," he murmured. "My place."
"...Yeah," I agreed quietly.

His house felt warm compared to the cold night — soft lights glowing, the faint scent of detergent and wood polish in the air. It was my first time there. He led me to his room, and I glanced around, taking in the unfamiliar space.
Before I knew it, his arms wrapped around my waist from behind.
"What are you doing?" I asked softly, a flicker of nervousness rising.
He leaned closer, his breath warm against my ear. "I just... don't want to let you go."
My pulse quickened. I tried to step away, but he held me gently, not forceful — just close.
His hands slid slowly along my arms, his touch affectionate and searching, sending a quiet warmth through me. He pressed light kisses along my neck, and I felt myself shiver — not from fear, but from the unfamiliar intimacy of the moment.
The air between us grew heavy with emotion — confusion, comfort, desire — everything tangled together.
My heart raced.
Part of me wanted to pull back.
Part of me wanted to stay.
And I stood there, caught between both.
