Chapter 5 :Broom cupboards and revelations

Akshara

When I woke the next day, I immediately knew that it was going to be a bad day. You know how you get these gut feelings and you can sense that something is gonna happen?

I just knew.

So I took my own sweet time getting ready. I even tried asking mom to let me skip. Of course, she  didn't agree. So I agreed to go to school, grumbling about it all the way. Like that was any different from my regular days though.

My mood improved when I met Vismaara at the gate. She looked just as pissed off and irritated as me. Thank god someone feels the same way.

It was already 12 noon. That meant only two more hours to go to go home and collapse on my bed and watch Austin and Ally. Yippee!!!

It was now music class. One of my favorites. I loved the teacher who taught this class- Mr. Khan. He was an amazing singer and had been trained in the Manhattan Academy For Music.

Moreover, the man actually knew what he was talking about. Not like my old teacher, who just sat at the piano simply putting his fingers down on some keys, leaving us to talk amongst ourselves.

Sitting down in my usual designated seat, I opened my music notebook, and went through the lyrics I had written last week.

The door opened, and many people gasped. I looked up to see the popular new guy entering the classroom. His walk was more like a strut, that 'I'm all that!' air surrounding him. Huh. I'd predicted this the moment I saw him.

'Ah!' Mr. Khan looked pleased to see him. 'Class, join me in welcoming Mr. Kapoor! He'll be part of our music class from today! Where do you want to sit, Raghav?' he asked, motioning towards the classroom with his hands.

'Anywhere's okay sir. You tell me.' he shot him a grin, with a slight shrug. Mr.Khan nodded and looked around, his eyes sweeping around the classroom before they landed on me.

Please no. Please no.  No. No. No.

'You can sit next to Akshara over there! Akshara raise your hand!' he said, smiling at me.

I hate my life.

I put my hand up and tried to magically communicate with the boy to tell him to refuse. Instead the stupid piece of shit nodded and walked towards me. I put my head into my hands and groaned.

I loved being at the back of the class, where no one could see me and I could work in peace.

It was my own safe space to hum tunes, to try out the lyrics I had written with stupid meanings and stuff, without worrying about anyone hearing me, cause no one ever turned around to the back. I had enjoyed it while it lasted.

For the love of god, couldn't I just get my old happy place back?!

Urgh.

'Hey.' Raghav shot me a smile as he sat down next to me, an incredible waft of cologne hitting my nose. Damn he smells good.  'Please don't talk to me.' I said, stabbing my paper with my pen.

'Why in the hell not?' he asked, laughing. It was a nice laugh. And you're a total fool, Akshy, why are you noticing all these things?

'Because.' I said, shrugging. He just gave me an amused glance and pulled out his notebook. It was a beautiful notebook, with ombre purple pages. I could stare at it all day. I saw something written in it too.
