Chapter 46: O Torturous Darlin'

Akshara

The sangeet ceremony passed on without any situations. Ultimately, we won. I know, crazy right?! Sanjana's choreographer, Lee, happily taught me all the steps and I learnt them as well as I could. I put on quite a show and apparently, according to Vismaara, Raghav had glared at around five guys who wanted to come and talk to me after the show was done. I smiled giddily at the thought, a stupid giggle escaping my mouth, before I realized what I was doing and glared at myself in the mirror in front of me. Stop being so school-girl-ish about it, Akshara!

This is all only until tonight, when the marriage finally ends and you go back to India. This is all only until you are still in the USA. This is all...a dream...a fantasy. You have to face reality at one point, don't you? The reality I lived in, was not somewhere where Raghav and I were together... our dreams and ambitions were more important to us. I looked a myself in the mirror again, feeling surprised at how well the lehenga that Raghav selected for me fit me. Alisha had styled my hair into waves with curls at the end, and given me a smokey eye make-up. But, most of all, I loved the lehenga. I wasn't usually a fan of traditional attire, but this lehenga looked fabulous on me...as if Raghav had known it would...and then bought it for me.

Pain gnawed at my heart. I can't and I do not think I will ever move on from him. It's not possible.I needed to talk to someone, someone who could convince me that I could. Someone who could assure me that everything was going to be alright. Then it hit me like a flash of realization. I glanced at my phone, lying on my table, in front of the dresser. I hesitated, my heart rate growing. Do I dare...? I took a deep breath, consoling my running emotions...and then picked up the phone. I scrolled through the contacts, my fear getting deeper and deeper with each swipe, until I reached the name I was looking for.

I pressed the call icon, nervously biting my lip. At this rate, my lipstick would be gone by the end of the hour. The steady dial tone didn't do anything to soothe my nerves. I think my fingers were trembling. The breath got stuck in my chest, as he finally picked up.

I inhaled deeply again,

and then, I spoke.

Raghav

My eyes were frantically roaming around the entire wedding venue, anxious to see her. A thought terrified me. She hadn't ditched me last minute and gone back to India right? She wouldn't do that to me.

She wouldn't.

But you thought she wouldn't break up with you right? Look where that got you.

But, she had a valid yet completely stupid reason for it. A reason where I played a bigger role than her.

But-

No buts! I trust her. She won't pull a stunt on me like that. Not after that night, when she had professed to me that she loved me. She won't.

A surge of relief washed through me, as I saw her approach Sanjana timidly. My eyes widened as I took in how fucking fabulous she looked. Damn. I had a very good fashion sense.
