Chapter 4 - Her Secret Tree in Her Secret Meadow

Shawn's POV

A couple of minutes earlier... Me and my father arrived at the Uncle Philip's place. Father said that it might take our minds off of what happened to my mother. My father sighed before opening the door.

"I want you to enjoy this night Shawn." He said but I stayed quiet.

"You know that this is for the best right? We need to move on."

"How can we move on so quickly when it only happened recently father?" I said with a dead tone in my voice. He sighed and kneeled to get to my level.

"I know that you miss her, I do too. But we have to accept the fact that she's already gone, Shawn. I know that it's hard for you, you're only a kid, but I know that you can handle everything. Uncle Philip held this party to make us feel better, be thankful for it. Who knows, you might even meet a girl here." He said with a laugh but cleared his throat when I didn't laugh with him.

"I don't like girls." I said which surprised him.

"Don't tell me that you like boys, son?!" he exclaimed but I crossed my eyebrows and looked at him.

"Don't be an idiot father! You know that I have no interest in such things!" I defended myself, clearly he's making fun of me but I know that he was just trying to make me laugh.

"Come on now, let's just go in, shall we? Besides, we are the guest of honor." He chuckled but I only nodded. And so, the door opened.

"Okay!" I said cheerfully at this girl named Alexa.

Earlier, Philip introduced me and asked her to go play with me since that I was feeling lonely, she asked me how old I was and I was surprised that she was close to my age, but I didn't show her that I was interested. Turns out, she never met her parents, she's been alone without any family around her. But she said that she wasn't sad at all, she didn't let herself be sad, instead she played and enjoyed herself with the time being, she made herself happy by the things that makes her happy. I was moved by that, even though she's just a little girl, I could tell that she is strong, she is stronger than me. We entered a meadow but we are still inside the property. In the middle, a large tree is placed.

"I come here whenever I feel lonely and sometimes when I'm just bored." She said while she ran around the flowers.

"This is so amazing..." I breathed while she ran around.

Even though that it's night, the moon's light are shining through the meadow, the fireflies are scattered, lighting up the place. I felt happy.

"Come on!" Alexa shouted and held my hand then ran towards the meadow again.

We ran around and played with each other until we were tired. We laid down under the big tree and tried to catch our breaths.

"That... was... fun..." she said between her laughs.

I nodded and smiled.

"It's fun here." I said but she shook her head.

"It wasn't fun here before. This place was just my resting place. But it's fun now since that you're here playing with me!" She cheered and got up, she smiled at me and then I heard my father call out to me.

I got up and saw him with Uncle Philip, father was waving like an idiot. I wanted to laugh but I couldn't, I have to leave now, it'll be long before I could come back here again since that Philip's mansion is in the mountains and we have to travel for a really long time just to get here. I sighed and frowned. When I turned to Alex she was pouting to, she readied herself to cry but she took a deep breath and smiled.

"Come visit me again!" She said cheerfully and so I nodded.

"Promise?" she asked with a smile. I nodded.

"I promise." Before I could say anything else, I felt small arms wrapped around my waist, she was hugging me.

"I'll wait for you okay? When you come back, we'll play here again!" I laughed and hugged her back.

"Sure!"
