Shawn's POV

"What's the emergency?" I panted as Jasper and I ran through the hallway.

A few minutes ago, Jasper, the former vampire king, came in the room that I was in, saying that there's something going on, so he made me come with him. He doesn't really know the emergency himself though, I've been asking him since he came to get me but he kept telling me to just come with him.

"There's someone in the palace that we really don't want to run into." He breathed as we took a turn.

I crossed my eyebrows, not taking my eyes off of where we were running. He said there someone that we don't want to run into, but there are things that I don't want to bump into. Have you ever stubbed your toes on a table? Hell that's one thing I don't want happen to me ever again.

"Who?" I asked but he didn't respond. "Who?" I asked again and looked at him this time.

He crossed his eyebrows and groaned. "Are you a freaking owl or something?! Just come with me!" He exclaimed which finally convinced me to keep my mouth shut.

God, can't these people loosen up?
After a few more seconds, we took a couple of turns until a metal door came into view.

We stopped in front of it while Jasper entered the password.

"Stand guard. Make sure we weren't followed." He breathed while I tried to catch my breath.

I looked from left to right, still confused of what we were running from.

"Can't the guards catch the guy? Why do we have to run and what are you so afraid of? Who are we running from?" I asked while I still looked around. I may not get what he's doing or what's going on, but I can't disobey an order. I may be stubborn at times but I choose to respect people to earn their respect as well.

I heard something buzzed which made me turn around.

The light on top of the door has switched from red to green, which probably means that it's unlocked.

"There are things that even the guards could not subdue." He breathed and closed his eyes, shaking his head.

I rolled my eyes, being careful that he didn't see it. "What can't they possibly kill?" I chuckled. "I could see that they are well trained which I will honestly say that I am impressed. They can easily kill someone if they put their minds into it. So why can't they just kill the guy that you're so afraid of?" I said which earned a death glare from him.

He started to walk towards me in a slow but intimidating way, still not removing his glare. A few more seconds, we were face to face.  Enough for me to feel the very anger in his eyes, making me regret the things that I just said. Not because I know that it's disrespectful, but it could also get me killed.

"They can't kill their princess." He said which made my eyes widen with shock. He opened the door, revealing everyone in the room, including Astrid lying on the bed, unconscious.

I ran towards her and held her hand, making sure that she was alright. I looked closely at her to see if she was injured but I found no wound. She stared stir in her sleep which made me feel at ease.

She slowly opened her eyes which were met by mine.

"Hey..." I breathed.

She took in a deep breath and clutched my hand on to her chest. "I'm sorry..." she sobbed.

Crossing my eyebrows, I looked at everyone, still searching for Alexa.

"What happened? Where's Alexa?" I asked but none of them could answer my questions. All their heads just turned to someone that's emerging from the crowd.

Alexa's brother.

I crossed my eyebrows and gently pulled my hand out of Astrid's grip, making my way straight to him. I stopped right in front of him and glared. "Answer me." I breathed.

He took in a deep breath and sighed, crossing his eyebrows in distress of how he should explain. "When I took your sister to see Celina, something happened. We still weren't sure of what happened since that we gave them privacy; I left them alone..." He breathed. "The doors were locked and everything was quiet." Looking at his mate, he crossed his eyebrows. "Or so I thought..." He said and turned his head back to me. "After a few minutes we heard someone screaming; it was Celina. We tried to break in but something kept it locked.

When we were finally able to break in, Celina started to change. Your sister was thrown off a wall by a force that neither of us could explain. We hurriedly took her here and had my grandmother heal her. Her wounds have healed but she has lost a lot of blood, but I can assure you that she isn't in a critical situation anymore. She just needs rest." He finally stopped.

"You said so yourself that no one can see your sister without any of your family members accompanying her..." I breathed and glared daggers at him. "Why did you let them be alone?!"

He crossed his eyebrows and scoffed. "Are you saying that I shouldn't trust your sister?" He said and shook his head. "You're right. I shouldn't have trusted your sister."

"What the fuck do you mean?!" I exclaimed.

Taking in a deep breath, he glared at me. "Well what the fuck do you want?! If I trust your sister, you blame this on me. When I said that I shouldn't have trusted her, you blame this on me. What the fuck do you want?!" He pushed me back which made me stumble.

His mate came holding him back while Jasper stood in front of us with a disappointed look on his face.

"And now, instead of helping your sister, you're all cowering in this room, thinking that she'll return to her normal self!!" I spat. I know that I'm not in the position of complaining but I just can't help it when things like this happen. Think of me as a bad guy here, but they aren't the good ones either. They're just sitting here, not doing anything.

I know, they might be thinking of a plan on how to save her but fuck it. They're all just staring at each other when I arrived. They should have been discussing on how to save Alexa. Don't get me wrong, I respect all of them. Even though they didn't give me their full trust, they trusted us enough to let us stay here. But I'm just so frustrated on how could they just sit here and wait.

Jasper cleared his throat when I realized that Alexa's twin was dragged off by his mate.

"You need to calm down." He stated and placed a hand on my shoulder. "We're thinking as hard as we can here. You need to keep your head, son. You won't make it through in this situation if you have that kind of mentality." He breathed. "I must admit, you have a point there. But saving her in an irrational way could hurt her instead of saving her. Thinking this through a couple of times is essential than to charge in a battle field without a plan."

I sighed and nodded, accepting defeat.

"I'm sorry. I'm just not used to sitting around while someone's in danger." I breathed and closed my eyes, letting myself calm down.

I heard him chuckled which made me open my eyes and look at him. "You're a good man." My eyes widen with confusion as I accidentally raised an eyebrow at the former vampire king.

"Excuse me?" I asked which made him chuckled a bit more.

He shook his head and smiled. "You want to help a person that is in need, no matter what happens; you want to do what you can to help them."

I stared blankly at him. I didn't think of it in that way. I've always thought that it was just a normal thing for a person to do...

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, opening it to formally thank him. "Thank you, sir." I breathed as he gave me a smile for an answer. Then, he pulled me forward and started dragging me towards the group of people that might despise me at this very minute.

"Now, why don't we do the right thing this time?" He gestured for me to step in front and apologize for what I said, and so I did.

They all eventually forgave me, especially Alexa's mom.

I respected them even more.

They all got what we didn't back in the mansion.
