Cheryl's Point Of View
New York City
2:34 p.m"No, no- Ciyle- look at Mommy, don't do that!" I told him as he started playing in his piece of cake that I had just gave him. He laughed and continued to hit the cake with both of his utensils as if the cake were drums.
"Boy, don't make me get your Daddy on you. I know that it's your tenth birthday but I will still thump you." I told him. He stopped and looked around at his little friend who tried to hold back a laugh at him."Fine." He said as he started to eat his cake. I shook my head and walked away. Today was another big day, another day to celebrate one of my babies birthdays. My baby boy Ciyle is 10 now and Cai is 16 years old. Ciyle is such a handful- and Tony and the only person who can straighten him out. Caiya is starting to want a boyfriend but I need to have a conversation with that girl about that and she is still painting.
"Hey, baby." Tony said as he walked up to me and gave me a quick kiss.
"Hey. You might wanna get your son. He's acting up." I told him as I looked around at all of the kids in the backyard running around and playing. It was summer time and so- he wanted to have a party at home. Plus, his friends wanted to swim in the pool that we had just built.
"What's the boy up to now?" Tony asked me as he crossed his arms and looked over at him.
"Beating the cake. Like he does at every birthday party that he has." I said as I pointed at his cake and shook my head.
"I'll talk to him. Anyways, I've called all of the other boys parents- they should be here soon. I think that Tyler and RJ are the only ones spending the night." Tony said as he started walking away.
"Spending the ni-...." I said but I just put my hand up and shook my head. I was stressed out about this party. I had two days to figure out what my little guy wanted to do and I finally put it all together. I'm happy that Tony helped me but gosh- all of these kids are bad as hell. My backyard looked like a damn tornado went through it. I looked around and didn't see Cai.
"Tony! Have you seen Cai?" I yelled across the backyard. He looked over at me and then around the backyard.
"No!" He yelled back. I sighed and went into the house.
"Cai!" I yelled as I started to go upstairs. "I'm up here." She said. I walked towards her room and stopped to look at her in her doorway.
"Sweetheart, what are you doing up here?" I asked her. She stopped painting and looked over at me.
"Uhm...I was just-...finishing up my art piece, Mom. I'm-...I'm almost done." She said as she started painting all over again.
"Caiya, it's your brothers 10th birthday. You know that he wants you to be there and celebrate." I said as I sat at the edge of her bed and watched her softly stroke the canvas with her brush.
"Ma, I don't want to be down there with all of those bad little boys. They're annoying and I'd rather be painting." She said as she turned in her chair and looked at me.
"I know but still...at least come down there and help me out. Just-...hand out the candy bags or something. Your Dad and I love it when you two are-...." I said but she cut me off.
"Mom, please...no." She told me. That's when Tony appeared in the room.
"What's going on here?" Tony asked.
"Nothing." Cai said.
"Wh-...why aren't you downstairs at your brothers birthday party?" He asked her as he walked into her room and sat in one of her floral chairs.
"No thanks." She said as she turned around and started painting again. I stood up and shrugged my shoulders.
"Well...I tried." I said as I looked at Tony. "You left the kids by themselves?" I asked Tony.
"No...Shemar is back." He said as he pointed behind him with his thumb. My mouth dropped.
"What?!" I slightly yelled.
"Yeah..." Tony said. Cai and Tony looked at me like I was crazy.
I haven't seen Shemar in almost 9 years and I missed him so much! We call every single day and he told me that he had a surprise for me. Maybe this was his surprise! I went downstairs and saw him talking and playing with the boys. One boy jumped on his back and he started laughing.
"Shemar...." I said as I stood there and looked at him.
"Cheryl!" He yelled as he put the boy down and came over towards me. He gave me a huge hug and squeezed me. "Ughhhh, Girl! I missed you! Surprise, baby girl!" He said as he continued to hug me. He then let me go.
"I can't believe that you're actually here! How's California?" I asked him as I rubbed both of his shoulders.
"Great! I actually brought you another surprise but you'll see it tomorrow. Your boy is turning 10! Wow- I haven't seen him since he was 1! I mean, over FaceTime but still- not in person." He said as he looked over at Ciyle as he played with some of his friends.
"Oh yeah. He is growing up." I said as I shook my head and smiled over at him.
"Makes you wanna start over, huh?" He said as he nudged me.
I looked at him. "Uhm, that's a no. I don't want anymore kids. Nope." I said as I laughed a little and shook my head.
"Whatever. You better keep making those beautiful babies with your husband." He said as he slightly laughed.
"You wanna see Cai?" I asked him.
"Yes! That's my little buddy! I bet she's grown." He said as he followed me inside. We then went upstairs and found Cai's room. Tony and Cai were in there talking but once she saw Shemar- she jumped up and ran to give him a hug.
"SHEMAR!" She said as she hugged him.
"Hey, sweetheart! I missed you!" He said as they broke the hug.
"I missed you too. Haven't seen you in so many years." She said as she watched Shamar look around her room.
"I know. I moved away and started to work more on my acting skills." He said as he looked at a painting on her wall that she painted when she was just 3 years old.
"You're still painting. You know what- I'm so proud of you, baby girl. Still following your dreams." He said as he looked over at me and then back at Cai.
"Yah, I'm proud of her too." Tony added.
"You have two amazing kids, Tony." Shemar told him as he touched his shoulder.
"I try man. I try. You saw my little guy downstairs, right?" Tony asked Shemar.
"Aw, Yeah! That haircut that he has is fresh. Keeping my little buddy good and clean for the ladies." Shemar said as he gave Tony a common dap.
"Don't say that around his Mother. She doesn't like that he's growing up but he's gonna get a little girlfriend sometime soon." Tony said as he laughed and walked towards the door.
"Trying to teach him how to be a young playah like you were back in school? What? You had like 10 girls on your line." Shemar said as he laughed and followed behind Tony out the door.
"Man, hush. Don't talk about my past." Tony replied.
Cai and I just looked at each other and shook our heads.
"I'm about to finish painting." Cai said as she sat back down and smiled.
"Alright, baby girl. I'm about to go handle this party." I said as I left out of her room.
