Good morning! It may be April Fools today but we are about to hear God's truth!
The verse for today is "He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given." -Proverbs 19:17
When we give to the poor, the needy, the helpless, God knows. He watches us and loves a cheerful giver. I was very much relating to this verse. I remembered when Mr. Kelly helped me and gave me a hearing aid. He was an angel to me. How is he now?
My parents were listening to the pastor when someone called me suddenly. It was Riley. I moved outside and answered the call.
"Hey, why?" I was a bit irritated because of the interruption.
"Hello, Janice. There is a man looking for you, I mean, uncle, here." Riley said.
"Man? What?! Wait! Aren't you at church?" I asked.
"I didn't come. But really, he is with me now. What should I do? Mom is not around." I could feel Riley's uneasiness.
"Okay, could you ask that man who he is?" I said in a nervous tone.
"Mr. Witting." Riley straightforwardly said.
Oh gosh. What should I do? I believe he is dad's lawyer.
I was really nervous but I could hear the pastor speak, "God loves you! God loves you!".
Should I tell them?
It's silly because I am writing this in the bathroom. Alright! I'm gonna call Riley again.
"Tell him that dad is not around. I mean, he is in a vacation."
"What?! Why?"
"Okay, tell him that we are coming home."
After the service, we went out for lunch and I plan to tell it there.
Me: Lord, guide me please.
God: I am your guide. Do not fear!
Me: Lord, thank you!
While we are eating, I looked at mom. Dad noticed me and mom looked at me. I looked at dad and mom looked at him too.
"Wait! Why are we so awkward?" Dad exclaimed.
"Is there something wrong, Janice?" Mom asked while slicing her glazed chicken.
"Nothing." I looked at the glazed chicken as she sliced it slowly. "No, I mean, yeah."
Should I say it now?
"Janice, is there something you want to tell us." Dad focused on me and stopped eating.
Mom as well let go of the utensils and chewed her chicken as she listens to what I am going to say.
"Mom, dad, I uh.. No, I mean, uhm.." I said in a wobbly tone. "I, oh Lord."
"It's okay. It's only us. What is it?" Dad asked in a serious and impatient tone.
"Dad, mom, we need to go home." That is all I did say.
Dad glued his eyes at me for ten seconds and he stood up. "Sure."
At the car, my mind was still wandering anxiously. I talked to God silently.
Me: God, what do you think?
God: Do what is right!
So, that made me do what I had to do. I breathe deeply and turned to my parents at the front.
"Mr. uhm, Mr. Witting is waiting for us at home." I revealed it straightforward.
Mom looked at dad shocked and dad stepped at the break instantly. "I'm sorry, who?" he asked.
"Mr. Witting.."
"Joseph, please." Mom rubbed his back.
"No, I'm okay. That lawyer huh?!" Dad tried to calm down and focus on the road. "What is he doing there?"
We kept quiet. She continued to massage his back.
"Fine. If this is what he wants, then this is what he gets." Dad stepped on the accelerator and we are like in a scene of Fast and the Furious. As soon as we arrive, he stormed the door.
The first thing we see is Riley being serving him a cup of coffee. "Hi, uncle, aunt. I directed him here because I see he wants to see Janice." Riley said playfully.
Dad suddenly punched Mr. Witting and we all screamed. "That's for my family!"
"What?! Dad, come on." I screamed at the top of my lungs, gripping his arm. "Why are you doing this?"
Unfortunately, my grip was not that strong and he punched him again. "And that's for me!"
I went to Mr. Witting and helped him sit in the couch. Mom was calming dad.
What is going on? I know this can't be good. Riley was also shocked and I feel sorry for her. "Janice, I think this is not the right time I am here." I rubbed her back. "No, no, thank you that you are here." I smiled.
"Riley, Janice. Go upstairs first for a while. For a while." Mom pleaded while she directs us upstairs. "Is dad going to punch him again?" I asked looking at dad.
"No, no. He is calming down." Mom said. "Just go."
After the noise, we heard silence downstairs and saw Mr. Witting's car drove away. As dad tries to calm down, he shouted his frustrations. "That man is not supposed to be trusted."
"But in the end, he let you go, right?" Mom said. "Yeah, but after Oliver paid him! Can you imagine?"
I stopped as I hear Mr. Kelly's name. Dad screamed all his frustrations at Mr. Kelly to mom. "Sania, I think that traitor is just playing around with us."
"Dad? Who is that?" I asked.
"Nothing. Go back to your room." Mom pleaded again. "You don't know him even if I tell you!" Dad screamed. Riley tried to lead me upstairs but I stood there. "Mr. Kelly! Dad, I'm sorry, I know him!" They were all shocked. Mom was shocked why I revealed it. "Dad, he is a good man."
Mom looked at me. "Janice, what are you saying?"
"Sania, wait! Does she know what she is talking about?" Dad diverted his anger into curiosity.
"Janice does not know what she is talking about Joseph, so please, let us talk. Only us." Mom calmly said.
"No, mom. I am part of the family! Also, listen to what I have to say."
"Are you scolding your parents, Janice?" Mom looked at me and raised a loud voice. "Listen to me!"
Riley almost crying, said, "Janice, it's only between your mom and dad. Let's go."
"Okay, but before you talk, please know that Mr. Kelly is a good man." Riley brought me outside. I can hear dad's murmur. "Why? Why, Janice? Are you thinking? He is a traitor!" he exclaimed. "Because he is the reason why I could hear your hurtful words!" Those were my final words before Riley could not take it anymore and pulled me outside to the frontyard.
"I'm sorry, Riley." I told her while in tears.
"Not to me, Janice." Riley uttered in a soft voice while hugging me. "To your parents and God."
Looking back, what have I done?
