I opened my eyes, thinking why the television is on. As I look around, I saw a girl sitting at my bed, watching news.
"Hey, cousin!" Riley turned around, noticing my groans. "Sorry I got up early."
"Why? Did you jog around the park already?" I asked.
"Yeah. I'm sorry I had to jog without you. I just uhm need alone time for myself." She looked sad.
"Why? Uhm, I mean it's okay. You know what? Let me tell you the good news first." I shook my head and tied it into a bun. "Dad is coming home!"
"Really? Nice!" Riley exclaimed. "What's the plan?"
I told her the plan on making a giant gift card for dad. Of course, I wanted it to be a handmade gift card. I wanted to show my creative side in designing posters and drawing doodles. Riley just smiled and after that she turned the television off and walked away.
"Why? What's the matter?" I asked remembering something she was about to say.
"Nothing, uhm, no. I just.. I do not think I can take these subjects anymore. I'm really having a hard time. I just failed in a major subject and I'm afraid that I'm going to disappoint my mom."
Riley sat down in the staircase and cried. "Look, I'm trying. But I just don't feel like my efforts are paying enough."
I really feel sad about Riley but I wanted to make her positive so I smiled and told a joke. "Hey, Riley. Do you know that we have a plant inside the classroom?"
"What about that?"
"It is a different kind of plant."
"Really? What is its name?"
"Cactus!"
"What about the cactus? Is it different?"
"Yes, because it has square roots!!" I tried not to laugh.
Riley giggled like a child.
"You know what your jokes are not funny. They are uhm, witty I guess." Riley said. "But thank you!"
I told her not to worry. Just be positive. God sees everything and if He sees that you are really working hard for something, He will give you what you desire. Just delight in Him.
"Delight in in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." -Psalm 37:4
