Chapter 30 |
Three shadows
"Siobhan?"
"Come in," Sigaw ko habang nakahiga parin sa kama ko.
Dahan dahang bumukas ang pinto. Sumilip doon si mommy. Her brown, concerning eyes looked at me, but I was avoiding her gaze. Instead, I was lying on my bed, headphones in my ears playing music, and my eyes staring up at the ceiling.
The both of them were standing in my room, their eyes on me. But I stared at the ceiling as if a giany black hole will appear on it, swallowing me in.
"Nag aalala lang kami sayo." Sabi ni mommy.
"Saan naman?" Tanong ko, barely paying attention to them.
"Tungkol sa dinner kasama ang Velasquez." Sagot naman ni daddy.
My eyes flickered towards them, at the words Velasquez and dinner.
"Ayokong pag usapan 'yon."
"Well, we do," my dad argued.
"Gusto naming malaman yung nangyari nung gabing 'yon." My mom said. "You, Riley and Yeshua went upstairs. Suddenly Yeshua had Radleigh stop helping me with the dishes and Colleen stop at the middle of his story and go upstairs. Then Riley went downstairs and left the house, saying he's going home by himself. And just when anything get any worse. Your friends left without any word too. Anong nangyari?"
"It's been a week, Siobhan." My mom continued. Isang linggo kang absent. But I let you stay, your grades won't get affected, alam ko 'yon. You owe us an explanation."
A long silence hung in the air. I stared at the balcony in front of me until I sighed. Naupo ako sa kama. Sumandal ako sa headrest, facing them. I pressed a button, pausing the music. Inalis ko rin ang headphones ko.
"It was nothing, okay?" Sabi ko, medyo defensive. "Riley and I had a little argument, and the guys sided with him." "Then I told them to leave me alone, and they did."
I always defended him.
"Are you sure that's all, Imo? That must be some argument for you to miss the school for a whole week. Just talk about it with us. Maybe we can help."
I know I couldn't obviously argue with this. But I wasn't actually going to tell them what really happened in this very room. Not only telling them that Riley always insult, hurt or break me since elementary.
