Chapter 27 - righting her wrongs

It had only been 2 days since Y/N and Reaper resigned from Team Rainbow, and yet somehow, the whole base had gotten word of it. It was safe to say that most of the operators didnt take the news too well. There were even a select few operators that berated Ash since they knew she was the one that drove them out in the first place. It was lunch hour and everyone was sitting at their usual tables during lunch. Ash hadnt really talked to anyone ever since that day. Although Valkyrie and Frost were worried for her, they also knew they had a good portion of the blame as well. Ash had been depressed about the whole resignation, and she felt she deserved all the hurtful things some of the other operators have been saying to her. Thermite had been trying his best to cheer Ash up, even trying to get some of the other operators off her back, but to little avail. Ash sat at her usual table with Valkyrie, Frost and Hibana. They were all equally looking depressed.

Valkyrie: "Well... i dont know about you girls... but i feel like an asshole..."

Hibana: "We really fucked up this time... Grace wont even look at me... but... i cant say that i blame her... This really tore a hole in our friendship..."

Ash: "Im so stupid... Why couldn't I have just left it alone? Why did i have to persist?"

Ash glances over to Ela's table. She, Dokkaebi, Bandit, Mute and Vigil were sitting there. The three guys have been trying their best to cheer the two girls up, but no matter what they did, it was all in vein. Ela and Dokkaebi had no reason to even crack a smile. All they were filled with was a mixture of depression and anger. Ash wanted to start fixing her mistakes, so she decided the best place to start was to try and talk to Ela and Dokkaebi, a feat that would prove near impossible.

Ash: "Ill, be right back."

Frost: "Where are you going?"

Ash: "Im gonna try to talk to Grace and Elż."

Valkyrie: "You're wasting your time. If they dont even want to look at us, what makes you think they're gonna hear you out?"

Ash: "Ill think of something..."

Ash gets up and walks over to their table to one of the empty seats.

Ash: "hey, guys. Is it ok if-"

Ela, Dokkaebi: "No."

Ash: "wh- you dont even know what i wa-"

Ela: "No, you cannot sit there. Leave."

Ash: "Please? Im not trying to start anything... i just want to try and fix all the problems i've caused."

Ash sits down, and in response, Ela and Dokkaebi get up and start leaving the mess hall.

Ash: "Girls, please wait..."

Dokkaebi stops, which causes Ela to stop and look back. Dokkaebi walks back over to the table, and picks up her tray, which has mashed potato on it. She usually would enjoy the mashed potato the mess hall served, but this time she saved it for a special occasion. She grabbed it and smeared it all over Ash's face. Dokkaebi even dumped the rest of her fruit punch on her head.

Ash: *lost for words* "Grace..! Why? Im just trying to be nice..."

Dokkaebi: "Payback is a bitch, isnt it?"

She tosses the tray back onto the table and both girls proceed to walk out of the mess hall. As irritated as she was on the inside, Ash couldn't show it because she knew she deserved it.

Bandit: "You really think they're in the mood to talk to you after what you did?"

Vigil: "I've never seen Grace this angry before. Hell, i've never seen her hold a grudge for this long."
