Ch.22

         The pounding in my head is killing me and my arm itches. The prickling feeling goes white hot before my eyes snap open. Something is twisted around my wrist like a snake, made of clear plastic, "An... IV?" My eyes are blurry, but when I blink, the blur fades from solid blue walls to a curtain. Solid figures soon becomes furniture. "Where am I?"
       "Ahh, Mr./Ms. L/n, you're awake." I look over to the direction where the voice is coming from and I see a tan woman in a white lab coat. Again, I ask where I'm at, "You're in a hospital, you had an accident dear. My name is Dr. Maheswaran." Maheswaran? That's Connie's last name! "You're... Connie's mom... Ain't...you?" I ask between deep breathes. She smiles and nods, "I am."
       "You have visitors, should I let them in?" It must be Garnet and the others. I smile and nod. "Okay. I'll let them know you're awake." She steps out of the room and I let out a long groan. Man, I've been holding that in for a while, but I suck it up again when I hear the door slam open.
        "Y/n!" I hear the gems yell as they rush up to me. They all hug me from every angle, but Garnet kisses my face all over repeatedly. "Garnet... Everyone's... Staring." I say in my scratchy voice, "Let them stare." She kisses me deeply after that comment.
         "Y/n! Are you okay? When do you get to come home? Can you leave today?" "Woah... Steven, slow down... Number one, yes,... I'm fine... I'm just hurting... A lot. Number two... I don't know when I get to come home... And number three... Refer to answer number two."
         "Dude, you were amazing! The way you did that tornado thing, it was amazing!" Amethyst says, trying to cheer me up as she shape shifts into a cat and lays on my legs. She snuggles up to me as if she's giving me a warm hug. Pearl is just standing beside me and I can see that she's on the verge of tears. She thinks its her fault that I got hurt. "Pearl, its okay... Its not your fault... That I got hurt. It was a glitch." I grab her hand and squeeze it.
          "But it was me. It was my hologram." She squeezes my hand back and let's out a tear. "It wasn't you Pearl... But, if it makes you feel better... I forgive you." She gives me a tight hug, but not too tight.
          I can feel Garnet shake the bed a little as she holds the bed's bar. That's definitely Ruby. Pearl releases me and goes sits down in one of the small chairs. As painful as it is, I scoot over on my bed and I pat the space beside me, welcoming Garnet. She takes my invitation instantly and cuddles with me. The heart monitor starts to yell at me when she takes my hand and puts it between hers. "Breathe y/n." "Working on it." She let's out a little chuckle and I put my brow next to hers.
          Steven is sitting on Pearl's lap and playing a game on his phone as Pearl watches, and well, Amethyst, she fell asleep on me. A sudden knock at the door startles everyone and Amethyst jumps off me like a cat on a hot tin roof and shape shifts back into her usual self. "Come... In." I say and Mrs. Maheswaran enters the room again along with a nurse. "I'm sorry to impose, but its time to change your bandages and take your meds y/n."
        I sigh, but nod. "Will everyone excuse us? You can come back in when he/she is all cleaned up." Everyone agrees in acceptance and heads towards the door. "Wait! Can... Garnet stay? I really want her to... Stay." "If you wish." Mrs. Maheswaran agrees and she draws back the curtain as soon as Garnet is back at my side.
       "Okay y/n, we're going to stand you up." Ugh... Okay let's just get this over with. "Okay." Garnet let's me hold onto her as Mrs. Maheswaran and the nurse helps me up. "Ahhhhh!" The pain in my abdomen is unbearable and I start falling to my knees until Garnet catches me. Even though, I can't see her eyes, I know they're filled with hurt and worry.
    "I know you're hurting Mr./Ms. L/n, but can you try to stand on your own?" I bite my bottom lip and let out a slight wimper, "I'll try." I do my best to stand up straight, but sometimes I feel like I'm going to pass out, so I lean against Garnet. The feeling of the bandages coming off is a pain in the butt, but its also a relief. "There we go." I look down and I see about twenty stitches visibly. "You have forty stitches in total. Twenty on the outside and twenty on the inside. Do you mind telling me what happened?"
       Garnet and I look at each other. Quick l/n, think of something quick, "Um, it was a rock climbing accident. I fell and I got impaled." Hey that rhymed, so hopefully she'll believe it. "Ahh... I see. You're going to have to be more careful next time, you lost a lot of blood and we had to give you a blood transfusion." That explains why I'm not really hungry. "Okay, I'll try."
      She squirts rubbing alcohol on me and I scream, "SON OF A DIAMOND!" I feel Garnet tense up and I feel kind of guilty about my loud outburst, but not too guilty. Mrs. Maheswaran finishes wrapping me up and they all help me back to bed. "Okay y/n, its time for your meds." The nurse hand me a cup of water and two pills. "You'll have to take two pills every three hours for the pain and it'll help you sleep." The nurse advises me after Connie's mom leaves the room.
     "Can I help y/n with his/her medication?" Garnet asks, which surprises me. " Well, I don't see why not. I believe that he/she is in good hands, right?" "Very... good hands." I correct the nurse. "Okay then. I'll see you in three hours, okay Mr./Ms. L/n?" I nod and she leaves. Garnet climbs back into the bed with me and tries to give me my meds. I purse my lips and look away from her. "Now come on love, the sooner you take these, the sooner you can come home."
        "But, what if I... Don't want to leave? What if I want to... Stay?" She suddenly unfuses. Ruby climbs onto my lap and is holding my meds, while Sapphire is at my head holding the water. "Oh you're taking the meds. I don't want no one, besides us, taking care of you. Now open up love."  I shake my head no. "Come on love, open up. The sooner we leave, the sooner we can do other things." Sapphire runs her hand down my chest and that makes both Ruby and I blush hard.
      "Sapphire, I-!" Ruby then slams the pills in my mouth and Sapphire quickly pours the water down my throat making me swallow. "That's... Cheating... You know? Two against one... No fair." "All is far in love and war." Ruby smirks. "That may be so... But Karma is... Going to come back... And getcha." I start tickling the both of them as much as my body will allow me, but eventually our tickle war becomes a kissing war when they turn back into Garnet.
          "Don't scare us like that again. We wouldn't know what we'd do if we loss you." I kiss her again, "Don't worry love... You can't get rid of me that easily." We laugh brow to brow, until we hear the door open and Garnet struggles to get off me, but our legs are intertangled under the covers. "Um, we'll come back tomorrow y/n. Goodnight." Pearl says covering Steven's eyes, while Amethyst just smirks. "Yeah, goodnight love birds." Amethyst winks at us and leaves. Both of our faces are redder than a tomato, but we can't help, but laugh.
