            Bill?! My hand tightens around my hand till it makes a little cracking sound. Why would he be calling me?! What kind of nerves does he have to call me right now at this time?! "Y/n?" Garnet brings me out of my thoughts with a hand on my shoulder. I look back up at her and my death grip on my phone releases, but the chime is still going off. "Y/n, what's wrong? Who is it?" "I-I-" I look down at my phone and think what I should do. After a second, I look back up at her. She's worried. "I-I have to take this." I walk away from her, "I'm sorry."
                    ~Pearl's POV~
        I watch Y/n walk off from Garnet in a slight hurry and I immediately go over to Garnet. "Garnet, is everything alright?" She looks over her shoulder and I do the same to see Y/n going towards the temple. I hear her let out a slight sigh, "I don't know. He/she just got a phone call from someone very important apparently and he/she had to take it." We start going back to the others and eventually sit on the blanket.
           Steven, Amethyst, and Connie is socializing with the other kids, while Greg is chatting with the children's parents, so that just leaves her and I. "Do you know who it was that called him/her?" She shakes her head no, "No. But I have a feeling that its something bad."
                        ~Y/N's POV~
         I pick up the phone, "Hello?" "Happy New Year nephew/niece." "It was until you called." I make my way towards the temple with a stomp in my step. "Woah, woah, woah. Tone down the anger. I know you're angry, but you could at least pretend to sound happy to hear from me." I laugh a fake laugh, "Hahaha. Like that's gonna happen. Oh its so nice to hear from you uncle! How have you been?! What have you been up to, ya know besides hitting your own family?!" The last few words come out in a slight hiss.
           An annoyed sigh comes from the other side, "Listen kid, I didn't call for your sarcasm." "Oh yeah? Then why did you call for? I know it wasn't just to wish me a Happy New Year!" Another annoyed sigh comes back across the line, "You're partially right Y/n, but I actually did call you to tell you Happy New Year from us..." I stop in front of the temple in a halt, "And?" Silence makes the line for a short moment, "And?!" "And... I want to invite you to come back down to Louisiana, so we can make things right."
           My eyes widen and I'm speechless for a moment. He wants to make things right? I don't know if he's kidding or not, but I'm not sure if I want to find out... Not just yet. I take a deep breath and respond, "When?" He takes out a nervous laugh from his body, "Whenever you want, but soon please." I pinch the bridge of my nose... I can't believe I'm going to do this, but I'm doing it on my terms... "I'll come down after my wedding in a few weeks. But that's it, unless we make up, then that's the only time I'm coming for a while, unless its important. Got it?" His hope floats to the surface, "That's fine! Just fine! But I assume I'm not invited to the wedding?" A small laugh carries on after that sentence, but dies when he senses that I'm quiet. "Okay, great. So I'll see you then. Happy New Year Y/n." "Happy New Year." I end the call.
             I look down at my phone, "The gems aren't going to like this... But I promised Garnet that she could come." I let out a sigh, then I shoot off some Happy New Year texts to Ruth and her family. She responds with the same text and a few heart emojis. I smile at the text and pocket my phone. My hands rub my eyes and I start making my way back to the others.
            When I get back to the others I see Garnet talking to Pearl and I see the others talking to our neighbors. I don't reckon they've seen me yet, but I don't mind. Looking up to the sky, smokey clouds lurk in the Moon's beam from the fireworks, but it doesn't take long for them to blow over, sorta like Bill trying to make me forget about what he did to me that easily. But unlike the smoke, I have a choice whether to stay or go.
           The sky distracts me long enough for Steven to come up to me in with a small hug, "Happy New Year Y/n." I look down at him with a smile and ruffle his hair, "You too Steven." He lifts his head up, "Is something wrong Y/n?" I shake my head, "No, I'm fine." "Are you sure?" I nod, "Yeah..." I look back up and see Garnet looking at me with a small smile. I look back down at him, "Come on let's go back to the others."
