~Ruby's POV~
Sleep doesn't visit me much last night and I wake up in tears. I can't believe that Bill, Y/n's own uncle, would just hit him/her for no reason. I mean Y/n didn't even do anything to him! Heck, even Ruth don't know why he did it! I hold in a sniffle because I don't want Sapphy waking up... She cried all night. We didn't want to go back to our room because we needed to be with Y/n... Or at least his/her possessions.
I look down to see Sapphy holding me tightly and it doesn't look like she won't let go anytime soon. Looking back at the ceiling, I try to come up with a plan to leave the bed without waking her. Sleep isn't gonna come back to me anytime soon, so I want to get up. Sigh, I look back at her and I try to carefully move her arm, but she tightens her grip around my waist... "Please stay." A few silent tears fall, "Okay." I kiss the top of her head and give in to her need for me to stay without a fight.
~Steven's POV~
"Y/n!" I give my best vamp friend an almost tackling hug when I see him/her. "Hey Steven." He/she ruffles my hair with a small smile. "Long time, no see stranger." I say trying to brighten him/her up and I gain a little chuckle. Success! "Steven, its only been one night." "Yeah, one night too many." He/she rolls his/her eyes with a small smile, "You're starting to sound like Garnet." I give him/her a weary look, "That's a good thing, right?" He/she smirks and ruffles my hair. I take that as a 'yes'.
"So, where do you two want to go get breakfast at?" Dad asks us. I look at Y/n and he/she just gives me a shrug, "You choose." Putting my finger on my chin, I hum... "How about Fish Stew's Pizza?" Dad's fingers drum the steering wheel, "Pizza for breakfast?... You definitely are my kid." He looks at me with a smile and I return it, "I knew it."
We had to go drop off Connie after she told her parents we were home and Y/n wasn't feeling good. We didn't tell them why Y/n wasn't feeling good, so they wanted her home just in case Y/n has something she could catch... After a few more minutes of driving, we all get out of the van and walk to Fish Stew's. Y/n looks terrible in the sunlight. His/her face is a deep purple at his/her mid to lower cheek and his/her eye is just a shade of purple lighter than his/her cheek. He/she looks like a train hit him/her and I bet he/she feels like one did too, but I'm not gonna say anything.
"Yes, it does Steven." I stop in mid - track on the boardwalk with a shocked, but confused look, "What Y/n?" He/she takes a few more steps ahead of me then stops along with dad, then he/she turns to face me. "It does feel like a train hit me." My eyes widen, "Wait, how did you know what I was thinking?" He/she runs his/her fingers back through his/her bangs with a small smile, "I don't like to do it, but sometimes I can't help it... I can read minds." My palms find their way on my cheeks, "Whaaaaaat?!"
~Y/n's POV~
Steven's eyes become stars and he gasps when I tell him I can read minds and I just let out a sly chuckle. It seems like I never cease to amaze him. He runs up to me and hugs my leg, "You're just like Sapphire!" He whisper yells and my small smile grows a little bit, taking that as a compliment, "Thanks." He let's go of me and we continue walking for a minute or two to Fish Stew's.
I open the door for the duo. "Thank you, my good sir/lady." Steven says in a horrible British accent with a bow as he enters the restaurant and I roll my eyes with a small smile, "Its my pleasure, my fair child." I try my best to match his silly British accent and I succeed when he laughs. "Thanks Y/n." Greg thanks me with a smile and a pat on my shoulder, "No problem." The glass door swings close behind me and Steven drags me over to sit in the booth beside him.
I choose the inner side of the booth and I automatically hold the menu up at my face. I know Jenny's probably working today and I know if she sees me, she'll ask what happened and I don't feel like playing twenty questions. "So, what do you two want? I'm buyin'." Thank God again for Greg. Pulling back the menu, I scan over it and make my choice, "I'll take a slice of cheese pizza and a side of garlic knots with a Sprite please." Steven gasps, "Y/n! You can't have garlic knots... You're allergic to garlic!" He raises his voice slightly and I just roll my eyes and drop my voice, "Steven, not all things you hear about vampires repellents are true... I'm not allergic to garlic." He raises a brow, "Really?" I give him a nod in confirmation. "Okay, I know sunlight and silver can hurt you... But what about stakes and religious objects like crosses and holy water?" I bounce my head from side to side, "Yes, to stakes, but crosses and holy water, mmm, not really. I mean, I'm religious, so religious objects don't really hurt me because my faith is strong." (Sorry to the nonbelievers.) "Oh, okay." He says with a smile and goes back to looking at the menu.
"Hey Steven! Hey Y/n! Welcome back to Beach City. How was y'alls trip?" Kiki comes over to greet us at our booth and I assume to take our orders. I keep my head buried in the menu, trying to hide my face as much as possible. Well, at least its Kiki and not Jenny. "It was great for most of it, until Y/n..." I peer my eyes over at Steven and give him a sorrowful look when he looks over at me, begging him not to tell with my eyes. He looks at me in a sympathetic understandment and looks back at Kiki, "Y/n... Got feeling bad, so we left." "Awe, I'm sorry to hear that Y/n. Are you feeling any better?" I pause for a moment, "Um, yeah... I will be." My head is starting to throb as I answer her. "Thanks for asking." "No problem. Say, what can I get y'all to eat?" I let Steven order for me and when Kiki writes down our order, she heads off to the kitchen.
"Thanks Steven." I say as I cautiously look around and put down the plastic menu. "For what?" I prop my elbow up on the table and use it to support my aching head, "For having my back... Its hard to tell who really has your back in the world now." He gives me a weak smile and holds my hand, "I'll always have your back Y/n." "And so will I." Greg places his hand on top of ours and I give them a small smile. "Thanks guys, and I'll always have y'alls."
"So Y/n, what exactly did happen between you and your uncle?" Greg asks as we all let go of each other's hands and I let out a sigh, "Its complicated." "Every family is complicated Y/n." He's got that right. Steven begins to rub my back and I let out a deep exhale with tears pricking my eyes, "He's angry at me for killing father and I don't really blame him... But he didn't have to hit me. He knew father used to beat me, but... I guess he couldn't help it."
Greg almost spits out his drink that Kiki gave us earlier, "One hit from your uncle, made your face look like that?!" He raises his voice a little and I nod, "Yeah, I have to admit werewolves really do pack a punch." I chuckle slightly. "Oh boy, no wonder you're in pain." I take a sip of my drink to wet my dry throat, "Yeah, but its not the physical pain that hurts the most... Its the emotional pain..." My body tenses up and I can feel myself get a little angry, so I close my eyes and just breathe, so I can finish my explanation.
I open my eyes to see a semi - tensed Greg and Steven. I give them a small reassuring smile, "Don't worry guys... I'm not gonna lash out or nothing." Not yet anyways... "Its just my vampire instincts want me to go down and hurt my uncle. Really, really badly." Steven looks at me with concern, "Don't tell me you're actually thinking about going back down there to fight him." I hold my head in my hands and shake it, "I don't know what I'm going to do. Its in my blood to go back down there and defend my honor by fighting him, but I know if I do, I-" I stop in mid sentence from Steven placing a hand on my shoulder, "Don't say it... Don't do it Y/n. We all need you here. You're family and we can't lose you." I let out a single stiffle sob, "I don't want to lose y'all either, but I just don't know what to do."
I sense Kiki coming over to us and I just do my best to hide my face from her. "Here you guys go." She sets the food down in front of us. "On the house." I smile a little, but I don't let her see me, "Thanks Kiki." "No problem Y/n, I hope you get feeling better." "Thanks, tell your sister I said hey." "I will. Have a nice day you three." We all return 'you too's' and when I know she's gone, I turn and face the food. "Well Y/n, I don't know what we're gonna do, but we'll figure something out." Steven says as he picks up his slice of pizza and takes a bite out of it, "But for now, let's eat." I smile and reach for my slice and take a small bite out of it.
