Nagising akon sa tunog ng phone ko.

"Hello?" Sinagot ko ng hindi ko tinigingnan kung sino ang tumatawag.

"Brie, are you okay? Kakagising mo lang ba?" Boses sa kabilang linya.

"Dad?"

"It's already 8:30. You have a meeting with James Rylander. Remember? Mike went to your office, wala ka pa daw"

"Oh shit." Napatayo ako bigla, nakalimutan ko ang meeting.

"Language honey."

"Sorry Dad. I'm on my way."

Napasarap ang tulog ko, di ko alam kung di ba tumunog ang alarm ko o pinatay ko lamg ulit.

"Kasalanan niya to eh." Tumawag pa kasi si Richard kagabi, tinanong kung nakauwi ako ng maayos na nauwi sa kwentuhan at abot ng madaling araw.

Nag mamadali na akong umalis ng condo ko.

I called Mike.

"Mike, sorry late ako nagising. Can you move the meeting atleast 10 or 11AM?" Nakalabas na ako ng parking sa condo.

"I already called. And they cancelled the meeting today."

"What? shit, I'm really so sorry. ahhmm, I'll just try and talk to them."

"Easy, Briella. They need to reschedule. They had an emergency so next week nalang daw. Kalma."

"Thank goodness. Thank you Mike. See you at the office."

"Okay, take care!"

Nakahinga ako ng malalim ng maputol ang linya. Ano bang nagyayari sakin?

RICHARD

Nasa loob ako ng office ni Sir William.

"I called you to let you know that I will promote nina as senior partner and I will announce it next Monday. I wanted to tell you personally. Ayokong sa iba mo marinig. And I know that you also want the position."

Natigilan ako. Nag pasa ako ng application para ma promote as Senior Partner last month. Di ko inaasahan na si Nina pala ang kukuhain niya para pigilan siyang mag resign.

"With all due respect sir, I know that you will just promote her as senior partner because she's planning to resign and there's a great offer waiting for her in other firms. So why keep her? WHy not let her go?"

Mahinahon kong sinabi. Magaling si Nina, pero di hamak na mas madaming magagaling pa sakanya na mas deserving na maging Senior Partner.

"That's not what business is, Richard. I get it, you want to be the youngest senior partner this firm has ever got but we need to consider the nature of this buisness. We can't just let go of people especially if they are loyal."

Nakaupo kami sa couch ng office niya, mag kaharap at ang pagitan ay isang mamahaling lamesa.

"I totally understand sir. Thanks for letting me know."

Lumabas ako ng opisina niya. Mabigat ang loob. Totoong gusto kong maging pinaka batang Senior Partner sa firm na to. Pero hindi lang yun ang tanging dahilan, may mas malalim pa.

Dumiretso ako agad sa office ng mga associates ko, at di ko inaasahan na walang nga kwenta ang mga gawa nila!
