I woke up and canceled my plans with Harry. I honestly just want to go talk to Stephen by myself and not go to lunch with him. I got ready and went walk down the stairs. My dad was fixing his tie and I smiled at him.
"You're going back to work?"
"Actually, no I can't. That's not what I want to do with my life and I can't stand sitting behind a desk going through boring papers"
My mother and him started to laugh and he wrapped an arm around me.
"I thought you wouldn't want to do it"
I smiled and grabbed an apple.
"If you're not working what are you going to do?"
"I have to apologize to someone that works there"
"Who?"
"Stephen-"
"Flirty boy"
"Yeah well he told me he had cancer and I took it the wrong way"
"What. He has cancer?" His voice changed and I nodded.
I arrived at my dad's office with him by my side. I pushed the button in the elevator wishing it would hurry up. Finally when it opened I ran to his desk.
"Stephen" I smiled and he looked up from his computer.
"Oh hey"
"I need to talk to you"
"Okay?"
"Now. Come here" He stood up and I grabbed his hand. I pulled him to the room I was working in yesterday and locked it.
"What are you doing?"
"I need to talk to you about yesterday"
We sat down and I looked at his face. His blue/green eyes were just the way they were when we were younger. His lips were always sticking out. That's one thing I liked about him.
"When you told me cancer I felt berated and I don't know why I did. I know I shouldn't but I felt like I was the one who had something wrong. I just didn't expect you to tell me that. It was a huge surprise for me and I should respect your choice and I'm beyond sorry. I'm looking at you now and you look so healthy and I don't want to lose you" I saw tears gather in his eyes and that made me start to cry.
"Ellie I know you have a boyfriend but if you didn't I would so kiss you right now" I laughed and whipped away a tear.
"I would let you"
"I don't want to lose you either" He leaned forward and hugged me. This is one of the last times I will get to hug Stephen the boy who made me cry at dinner when I was 13.
"If you are able do you want to go get drinks with me and Phoebe and some other people?"
"Old Phoebes is still around"
"She never left" I laughed and we stood up.
"Oh course I can make it. I will call you when I get off work"
"Sounds good. I'm going to go see my dad"
"Alright" He smiled and I hugged him one last time.
I walked down the hall and opened my dad's office door.
"Ready?"
"Yep" I nodded and he grabbed his phone off the desk and we left the office.
"Want to get some lunch?"
"That would be nice"
We drove to a little dinner not to far from the office building. I've always gone here with him. It holds good memories.
