Heartbreak

"Shawn can I come over?" She speaks with a nervous voice, she felt pathetic ringing her ex but she needed someone. It's hard going through heartbreak alone.

"Yeah I guess" Shawn speaks. "Thank you" she says and ends the call.

She grabs her bag and shoves a wrapped box in there. The box had a bracelet in it for Shawn, she saw it when she went away and thought of him immediately but she never got to give it to him.

She walks to his house in the pouring rain wearing a grey skirt and a white blouse with black thigh high boots. It was foolish of her especially when she has a car but she wanted to feel the rain on her skin and the wind in her hair. Heartbreak makes you crazy.

Finally reaching the door she knocks and waits. He opens the door and looks over her appearance. "Why the fuck did you walk?" He exclaims pulling her inside. "Erm I don't know" she answers.

"Come on" he says gently grabbing her arm taking her to the living room sitting her down. He walks away and grabs a blanket for her. "Here" he says handing it to her but she shakes her head "it's okay thanks" she says.

He shakes his head and opens the blanket placing it over her shoulders.

"What the matter y/n?" He asks sitting beside her. She sits up straight looking forward at the fire place stopping herself from crying. She looks up and blinks. "I wanted to see you" she says, he chuckles and looks down at his watch "at eleven thirty?" He questions.

"I'm sorry I can go" she says pulling the blanket off her realising how stupid she must look. Shawn grabs her hand and pulls her back down "I was joking" Shawn says looking at her but she avoids eye contact.

"Oh okay" she mumbles biting her lip.

"Y/n tell me why your here" He says moving her wet hair from her face.

"Okay then" he mumbles after not earning a response. "How's the boyfriend then?" He asks what he thinks is a harmless question.
"You're going to Hawaii with him right?" Shawn asks.

"We broke up" she says gulping.

"Oh I'm sorry y/n" he says his voice lowering. "Come here" he says taking her in his arms hugging her. She sobbed in to his chest as quietly as she could.

She pulls back and looks at him. "Why did you break up?" He asks. She clears her throat and wipes her eyes. "He cheated on me with some blond" she says like it meant nothing to her, like it didn't hurt.

"Well he was a dick and I told you that when you first started dating him" Shawn says making her choke out a laugh.

"And I should've listened" she says.

"I miss you Shawn" she admits. "I miss you too y/n, I miss having my best friend around I know our break up was mutual and everything but we can still be friends" he says.

She didn't think her heart could break further but it did. She loved Shawn and her break up with her ex made her realise that she needed Shawn but Shawn doesn't want her.

"Yeah your best friend" she says. "Shawn I have-" she's interrupted by the door knocking. "Sorry one minute" Shawn says getting up.

She was about to admit her feeling and give the bracelet to him but maybe this was fate knocking at the door telling her to stop.

Shawn walks in and y/n looks up seeing he isn't alone. He's holding the hand of a blond girl.

"This is y/n my best friend and this is Maya my girlfriend" Shawn says and y/n feels a burn in her veins.

"Hi it's nice to meet you!" Maya says, y/n automatically recognises her. She was the one her boyfriend cheated on her with. "Hi, you too" y/n says.

Y/n quickly gets up "I'll get going now, you guys have fun or whatever" she says moving away from them. "Wait y/n" Shawn says running to the door where she was, leaving Maya.

"Don't go yet, watch a movie with us" Shawn says but she shakes her head no "it's okay Shawn, I don't want to third wheel" she forces a smile "just be careful with her okay, bye Shawn" she says walking down the steps back in to the rain. Shawn couldn't even reply as she walked off so fast.

Her heart broke three times tonight. The break up. Rejection. No second chance.

She wanted to tell Shawn about Maya and about her feelings but she couldn't, he looked happy and she didn't want to ruin his shot of happiness.

So she carried on walking home in the dark, the rain hitting her skin harshly merging with her hot tears.

Heartbreak consumed her.
