Sorry it took me forever to get this up. I wanted to take my time with this. Plus I've been having issues with my Hospital bill from two years ago and I'm more than likely going to have to hire a lawyer and go to court because it's all just a mess. This is a request made by okayallison

(Calum's P.O.V.)

"Calum, I don't think I'm going to be able to come home for your birthday. It's been really crazy here," my younger sister, (Y/N), sighed while looking at me through the phone. I could hear the sadness in her tone and it broke my heart. I had been hoping that she would be home for this birthday but life happens. I know she's tried her best to make it home the past few months. I haven't seen her in almost a year.

"I'm really sorry Calum. Maybe next year." She continued by trying to cheer me up. I smiled half-heartedly and mumbled, "Yeah, maybe."

We continued to talk for the next ten minutes before she had to leave for work. (Y/N) and I grew up doing everything together. She was my best friend and I was hers. She decided to join the military while I decided to further my musical career with my band. We've toured around the world and sold out shows almost every night. My number one fan is (Y/N). She's always been really supportive. Now that she hasn't been around, I feel like a big chunk of myself is missing.

A few days later.

I woke up the morning of my birthday totally dreading the day. Everybody would be telling me happy birthday but honestly, I don't really want to celebrate today. If I decide to, I'll probably just get really drunk. Ashton, Luke, and Michael came over early and dragged me out of bed and said that they were taking me out for a few hours. I was suspicious of them because usually Michael isn't out of bed before noon.

The three of them were cheery and way too excited for my liking. I wasn't in the mood for this at all. "I hate to be a buzzkill guys, but I really don't feel like doing anything today."

Michael chuckled, "Too damn bad. Get dressed and meet us downstairs where we'll be eating."

When they left the room, I just sat on my bed and talked myself into getting dressed. I threw on some sweat pants, a white t-shirt, my black beanie, and called it good. I walked downstairs and met the guys in the kitchen and slumped myself in the bar stool, "Can we hurry up and get this over with?"

In the car, the three of them did most of the talking while I stared blankly out the window. I thought about the day I saw (Y/N) last. I took her to the airport when she left for deployment. I was an absolute wreck driving back home. Not only was I driving back alone, but I also had no idea when or if I would see my sister again. Today is even more upsetting because it'll be my first birthday we've spent apart. I was so zoned out into my own little world that I didn't realize we had stopped somewhere to eat breakfast.

I ordered water and some bacon and eggs. In all honesty, I wasn't hungry at all. I poked and played with my food and I think Ashton took notice, "Cal, please eat. It's your birthday." I shrugged my shoulders and didn't make any eye contact.

"Calum," Michael said with a mouth full of food, "if your sister saw how you were acting on our birthday, she would kick your ass."

He wasn't wrong. She really would. The army probably taught her ways to kill people thousands of ways with just her bare hands. "I know. It's just hard to enjoy the day." I said, taking a sip of my water. Michael was eye-balling my bacon, "Are you going to eat that?" I pushed my plate towards him and a smile swept across his face.

The guys dragged me to different shops outside of town and I started to cheer up a little bit. Before I knew it, it was around 5:30 PM and Ashton said, "I'm guessing you're tired. We should take him back home." We all agreed and began our journey back to my house. I was probably going to order pizza and watch movies the guys. What better way to spend your birthday when you're depressed?

Luke was on his phone, Michael was looking out the window, Ashton and I were jamming out to music in the front seat. We got a lot of weird looks from people at the stop lights, but who cares? We're too young and too dumb. (TO KNOW THINGS LIKE LOVE)

When we pulled in the driveway, there was a rental car parked. Weird. It was probably my grandparents. They always come to my birthdays. Luke, Ashton, and Michael darted for the door before I could reach it. They smiled at me.

"What?" I was confused. They're acting strange all of a sudden.

"Are you ready for your biggest surprise?" Luke asked.

I shrugged my shoulders, "You know how I feel about surprises."

"Fair enough," Michael shook his shoulders, "but you'll like this one."

They opened the front door and there stood my little sister. I could feel tears making their way to my eyes and a smile swept across my face. I ran up the stairs, accidentally knocking Michael off the porch in the process, and ran to my sister. I almost knocked her down as well. I nuzzled my face in her neck and I couldn't help the tears falling down my cheeks. I was so happy and excited. I pulled away, "I thought you said that you wouldn't be able to make it?"

She gave me the sassy look she always gave me, "You think I would let anything stop me from seeing you on your birthday?"

I couldn't help but to hug her again. It all made sense now, the boys were keeping me occupied while my mom and dad and sister set up for my birthday. I looked at the guys and asked, "Why didn't you tell me?"

Michael sassed, "That defeats the purpose of it being a surprise."

"Fair enough," I mocked him.

Today is officially the best birthday that I've ever had. I couldn't be more grateful to have my best friends and my family here to celebrate with me.
