A royal ball is something that only high class families could attend. You had no social status that could allow you to attend; you're a baker's daughter and nothing more. You stared at the castle view from your window and saw carriages entering the castle. "If I were a daughter of a Barron, it would still be enough...Ah...but I guess a baker's daughter is just as great," you said to yourself trying to be positive. Your door opens, and your mother walks in with a note at hand and a large wrapped box. "What is that?" you wondered. "This is a gift from the prince," your mother says smiling and sits on the bed to open the gift for you. She took out a luxurious material that turned out to be a simple dress. There also was a pair of shoes and a mask that matched with it. You took the letter and read what Calum had to say. The letter talked about the royal ball and how it was a masquerade party. He wanted you there, he wanted to keep his end of the promise and let you visit the castle. "Servants the prince trust are waiting downstairs with a carriage. We must get you ready," your mother says smiling. "But...what about you and dad? This seems a bit unfair," you mumbled. "It's fine sweetheart, besides, it's a great honor for the prince to be so kind to you," she says while helping you with the dress. "Yeah..." you mumbled with your voice fading. You tried to put your finger on it, but you really had no idea why Calum continued to visit even if it was for the bread, he chose to interact with you. "(Y/N)?" your mother calls out. You look up and then to a mirror seeing the transformation of yourself. "Wow..." you managed to say. "You look beautiful, my daughter," she says before putting the mask on you. "Now listen, you must be back when the clock strikes midnight. I'll be worried if you stay longer than that. The party is strictly for nobles so...I don't want to cause the royal family trouble," she says before tucking your hair behind your ear. "I understand mother," you said before standing up. You left the house and into a carriage that was waiting in the front, then headed straight for the castle. The guards greeted you in and suspected nothing. You exited the carriage, and the servants escorted you inside. You were in awe when you saw the inside of the castle, you saw bright lights and elegant art, and you heard the laughter of the high class sipping on wine while wearing masks. Music was playing loudly, and everyone danced following the beat of the sound. You saw Calum who was sitting on the thrones with his family. You saw how people would offer them to dance. A young man keeled in front of the family and asked permission to dance. Princess Mali-Koa stood up and curtsied at the man, accepting his proposal. You thought about doing the same and asking Calum, but the thought of dancing with him made you feel frazzled. You didn't know him like that, you weren't intimate with him. You saw a girl approach the family again and asked for a dance, Calum's mother looked at him and nodded her head. Calum stood up and accepted the dance. Everyone stared at them in awe, you would hear how high class that girl was, how she was a daughter of a very high noble. You felt out of place, the castle and scenery was beautiful, but you didn't belong here. You took a moment away from the party and found yourself at the balcony. You looked out and wondered if you could see your house from here. "Impossible, my house is far too small to see from here," you said. "Young miss, why are you out here by yourself?" a tipsy noble asks. "O-Oh just for some air," you answered. "My, you are very lovely, care to dance?" he asks while wobbling to you. You tried to refuse and knew you were in a pinch. You felt someone block you from the drunk noble. "Ahh, it seems like you had one too many to drink. Excuse me, servants, could you please escort the Barron and see if you can sober him up?" Calum asks. "Yes your majesty," they said before taking the Barron away. Calum faced you and grinned. "Sorry, I had to figure out how to get away from the party," he says looking back at the small group of girls looking for him. "Do you want a tour?" he asks. "I-Is it okay?" you wondered. "Yeah, I snuck you in here just so I could show you the place after all," he says before taking your hand and hooking it with his arm. He escorted you back inside and started the tour of the castle. He showed you simple places like the library and the garden, and his favorite view from the castle. You smiled at the new view and leaned against the edge. "You're beautiful," he compliments. You smiled and thanked him before speaking, "Your world is so beautiful...But I really don't belong in such a place," you mumbled before looking back at him. In the distance you heard the clock strike 12 and the bell ringing throughout the kingdom. "I should go," you said. "Oh yeah...Your mother's rules..." he says escorting you back. "It was a wonderful night Prince Calum, thank you," you said. "I'm sorry we didn't have enough time to dance, I was actually waiting for you to ask me, then again, I should be the gentleman and ask you," he says smiling. "I'll make that the next promise," he says letting you go to head into the carriage. You stared at him slightly surprised by his words, and the door closed on you. You saw him wave as the carriage began to leave the castle grounds. You sat back into your seat and felt your face blush. "Don't make such promises," you said to yourself and covered your face to calm down.
