When you were young perspective (Early Pre-Teens)

Honor, pride, bravery, and skill were the characteristics passed down each generation of your family. Your family were warriors, knights, guards, and heroes that served under the royal family since the beginning of their rule. It was a rare moment when a girl was born into your family, throughout the years each generation had strong men born, you were the first daughter to enter your family line, and the only child that could be born in your generation. Your childhood consisted of fulfilling both roles to be a future bride as well as to serve in the royal army and protect the young prince. When you turned the bright age of 13, you finished your basic training and were presented in front of the royal family. "Your Majesty King Andy and Queen Liz I introduce you my eldest daughter (Y/N) who will join the ranks and has trained hard to protect your youngest son in line," your father says bowing his head; you followed his lead and lifted your head when he did. "A daughter? Are you sure she is strong enough?" Andy says a little hesitant. "Yes my king, our family's genes have not skipped her generation, she is just as strong as her ancestors and maybe even me, she has a lot of promise," your father pursues. "Never has there been a girl who has been a knight in our forces..." "Ah yes, but in France my queen, there was a hero named Joan of Arc of France-" your father says but gets cut off. "Needless to say, I am still not sure about this, there is another knight in training from another family that we are also considering," Liz says. "My queen, my family has served close to the royal family for centuries, to suddenly break that tradition-" "Calm yourself, we know the history with your family, and we deem it important as well. How about this, we have a little match between your daughter and the knight we are considering. At the moment, he is growing acquainted with our son Luke...Ah there they are right now," Andy says gesturing to the two young boys around your age entering. "Luke, this is (Y/N), she is the other knight who will be taken into consideration to protect you " Liz introduces. "Aha, a girl? Your majesty, you must be joking," the knight beside Luke says. "Hi," Luke says shyly. "Prince," you said bowing your head. "Now, now, remember your role as our son's protector isn't set in stone. It will be based on a little match between the two of you and our son's choice in consideration." "I understand your majesty," the knight says and glares at you. "(Y/N), please get acquainted with Luke while we talk to your father," Andy says dismissing you. The three of you went to the garden, and the knight you were up against was being cocky with you. He talked to you as if you didn't know your duty and role, and you noticed that he would treat the prince a bit harshly and be overprotective. In the garden, Luke demanded that he was thirsty and ordered him to fetch something for him to drink. "Sire, you will be alone-" "It's okay, today I have 2 protectors so you can go," Luke points out. The knight wanted to object but left quietly. You looked at Luke a bit concerned, "Prince are you okay?" you asked. "Ah, uhm, yes. I just find this whole matter pointless you know? I'm a grown man and a king must learn to fight too right? I am capable of taking care of myself no prob-" he says standing up but tripping over air and falling into the grass." "Prince!" you said going to his side. "Are you okay?" you asked. His face grew pink, and he looked away, "yes...I am clumsy aren't I? Yet, I feel like I don't need protection," he says trying to act tough. "Young prince, I understand...You will grow to be a wonderful king and grow to be strong. It is just temporary that I will protect you, if you allow me," you say smiling. He gets slightly flustered, but before he could speak, you were pushed aside by the worried knight, "Prince Luke! You are on the ground! Are you okay? What are you doing (Y/N) how could you let the young prince sit on the filthy ground?! What kind of knight are you!?" he says in a frantic manner. Days before the match, the king and queen allowed you to get used to being around Luke. The knight was always overprotective and even freaked out over a stray cat unintentionally pushing the prince in the thoughts of protecting him. You took note and always made sure to catch Luke whenever he was pushed around. You even prevented him from tripping over air which you took note that he did often. On some days, you and the knight took a moment to train Prince Luke a bit to grow stronger. You would include him in your morning work outs which he didn't mind. At this time, the prince was slightly chubby, and you noticed he wasn't okay with it. The knight would try to hold in his laughter on how slow he would run but taunt you to race him. You never gave in and jogged right beside the prince. "Thank you (Y/N)," Luke would say. "It is no problem sire," you said before stopping at the end and handing him water when you stopped. "I hope you win the match tomorrow...I really want you to win," he says sipping his water. You smiled and thanked him for his kindness. Your father picked you up at the castle and noticed the knight and his father acting high and mighty staring the two of you down. Your father put his arm around you with a serious tone, "Destroy them," he says in a competitive tone. You held in your laugh and smiled, "You have faith in me?" "I never doubted you a bit, even if everyone in our family had doubts because you were born a girl, I never gave up," he says before taking you home. Early morning you and your father went to the castle ready to start the tasks the king and queen set up. Some involved an obstacle in stamina, intellect, and strength, and the knight you were up against was always a point ahead. The next task was to stand your ground and block the arrows being pointed at the two of you. The impact made both of you take a step back. Another set of arrows were fired and the knight next to you stumbled causing the points to be even. As the final task, you had a small sparing match with swords. The both of you were equal in skill, and you received a few slashes here and there. "Give it up girl, you will never equal the strength of a man," he says. You looked to the side to watch Luke who never kept his eyes off of you. "I'm sorry, I promised someone I would win," you said before slashing your sword against his causing him to stumble back. You pointed your sword at him causing him to stay down. "Point set, (Y/N) wins," Andy calls out ending the challenges. They took a moment to talk and faced the both of you. "You were both strong and did well today, but the king and I have decided that (Y/N) will be the one by our son's side," Liz says. "I object!" the knight says disregarding the judgement, "She was always a step behind, how could this happen? What about the Prince's decision?" he asks. "I want (Y/N) to be by my side," Luke says, "besides, I feel more danger around you considering your 'protection' was pushing me to my death from things that weren't even considered dangerous," Luke points out. The knight wanted to complain but was dragged out by his father from embarrassment. Your father was thanking the king and queen, and Luke took you to the side to bandage up the slashes on your arm and cheek. "Thank you Prince, but I can do it myself," you said. "No, I can do it," he insists. "Thank you (Y/N)," he says shyly. You held in your laugh at the lose bandage work Luke did but appreciated his effort. "I'll do my best to protect you Prince Luke." He smiled back, and you felt a thump in your heart. You shook the feeling away when you were called by your father to retire for the day.
