You started to take notice in Luke's fidgety tendencies. As of recently he has been trying to sneak out of the castle. He has succeeded in sneaking pass every guard on duty, except for you. You stared at him blankly as he stood there frozen on the spot in his peasant disguise. "Prince Luke, what do you think you are doing?" you asked. "N-Nothing," he stutters and gets ready to turn around like usual and head back to his room. This was the 5th attempt this month, and by the 3rd attempt, he already knew the drill to report back into the castle. During Luke's study hall, he was reviewing his history lesson but absentmindedly started to doodle on the pages. You let out a sigh and decided to hear him out. "Why is it that you are trying to leave the castle your majesty?" you ask. Luke drops his quill, and he hesitates to answer. "I-I just want to visit it, no particular reasons," he mumbles. "Then why not ask the servants to bring the carriage around?" you ask. "Well... visiting the village is different when you're royalty. Everyone fawns over you and treats you differently. I don't really want that. I want them to treat me like them," he says, and you didn't give him a reply. He blushes slightly, "It sounds silly doesn't it?" he asks. "Not at all," you said giving him a reassuring smile. "Besides, I couldn't explore the kingdom properly in a carriage could I?" he says. "You can't really explore the kingdom by yourself either," you pointed out. "Then, come with me (Y/N). You're my guard right? Then I order you to accompany me to the kingdom " he says. You smile slightly, "As you wish your majesty." The next day you went to report to your captain that the prince ordered you to take a day off. When you were dismissed, you made your way to Luke's room and knocked on his door. You waited for a moment before being pulled inside. Luke was excited knowing that he was really going to get out of the castle without being caught. "You're a bit too happy your majesty. Here, I brought some clothes from home. I have a lot of men in my family so this should do," you said. "Do commoners really wear this?" he says looking at the material. "I'm sorry it isn't to your liking, but this is the difference between your clothes and ours." "Oh, I didn't mean anything by that. I like this material, doesn't feel stuffy like what I wear on a daily bases," he says before changing. You excused yourself to wait in the hall and tried to shake this uneasy feeling in your heart. The door creaked open, and Luke peaked out grinning. You smiled and told him to keep quiet. You gave him a few bags to hold and told him to not look up when crossing the guards at the front gate. "(Y/N), off duty today?" a guard asked. "Yes, the prince is feeling a bit stuffy and wants to be left alone for today," you answered. "I see...Who is this?" he asks gesturing to Luke in disguise. "New trainee my father picked up. We just needed to make a small visit. I'm going back home," you said casually. "Take it easy," he says before dismissing you. You took Luke by the arm to let him hurry up. When you got far enough from the castle, you took the bags from Luke and gave him the, "okay" to wander around. "The guards must really trust you." "My family is well known, we have a status," you said while keeping an eye on Luke. He would run into shops for not even 5 minutes before heading into another. You laughed at the 18 year old who was acting like a 5 year old in a 6'4" tall body. "Hey, you ought to pay for that," a shop owner says to him when he picked up food from the stand. You hurried to his side and put the money in the woman's hands. "I'm sorry about that." "(Y/N)? You know him?" "Yes, he's my responsibility for today. Sorry, he's a bit excited. He hasn't been here in a while," you said. "A traveler? Hmm, then here, have some on me," she says packing a small bag full of food for you and Luke. "Thank you for your kindness," you said. "Not at all, if he could tell everyone about my business, that would be enough," she says grinning widely. You let Luke hold the bag as he ate, and he gave you a sorry expression, "I'm sorry you had to pay." "You don't have any money on you?" "Royalty doesn't carry any money. Royalty doesn't jingle," he recites. You rolled you eyes and smiled. "Okay then, I'll pay for you today," you offered. "I"ll have my father raise your pay when we get back (Y/N)," he says before kissing your hand as a thank you and running off to someplace else that has caught his eye. You smiled on how whimsical he was being, how happy he was interacting with villagers who didn't even know his true identity. Your heart started to beat unusually again, and you clenched your chest waiting for the beating to stop. You snapped out of your confusion to prevent Luke from tripping over himself again when he was running towards you. "Your majesty you have to be careful," you said. "I'm sorry, but look at the big crowd," he says pointing at the center of the kingdom. "Oh that? This always happens everyday. There is a sword that is stuck in stone. That sword was left by one of the greatest knights in history. They say if you pull it out, you are destined to be a great fighter," you said. "You want to try it out?" "No," you said bluntly. "(Y/N), as prince, I Luke Hemmings order you to take the sword out of the stone," he says. "Your majesty, you are using your power and authority for the wrong reasons," you mumbled before taking his order. Villagers anticipated your strength when you made your way to the sword. You tugged on the sword testing and observing it's position. Luke waited in the front of the crowd with the belief that you could take it out. You rolled your eyes and readied yourself for humiliation. You tugged on the sword with all your strength then felt something give way. The crowd fell silent as you held the sword in your hands. The only person cheering was Luke who found it amazing that you were the only one to release the sword from the stone...The sun started to set, and you knew it was time to sneak Luke back into the castle. "(Y/N), can we find some thugs to test that sword on? Maybe a dragon," he asks. "Dragons don't exist your majesty, and no, we have to get you home," you said as you made your way to the castle. Everyone running around frantically looking for Luke when word got out he was missing. "I guess we stayed out too long." "Oh no, (Y/N) I'm sorry, I'll be sure to explain everything-" Luke says only to be interrupted by a guard who noticed them at the entrance. "Your Majesty, you're safe! (Y/N)? I thought you had a day off?" "Yes, about that, let me explain-" you started but was interrupted, "(Y/N) saved me. Yeah. I snuck out even though I was told not to, and I got into some trouble, and (Y/N) saved me by pulling the sword out of the stone," Luke says covering for you. "That's amazing...as expected from you," the guard praises. "Yes, now be sure to please tell my father to raise (Y/N)'s salary. Tell the servants to draw me a bath too?" "Yes Prince Luke," the guard says excusing himself. "Oh, and (Y/N)?" Luke says turning to you. "Thank you for today," he says before leaving. You headed home to polish your new weapon, your father happy and drinking beer to celebrate the honor your brought to the family. "So you were out with a boy when you got that sword?" your mother asks while cleaning up. "Uh, yes, you guys don't really know him though. He doesn't come into the village often," you said. "So it was a date?" your mother questions, and you stutter a bit accidentally dropping the sharpener. Your father laughs at your flustered attitude. "It's so unnatural to see my daughter flustered over a man. Either way, that man who convinced you to take that sword out of the stone, you ought to marry him in the future," he says before finishing his pint. You felt a blush grow on your cheeks and the beat in your chest, still confused on these feelings.
