Since the day he was born, everything was chosen for Prince Ashton. From the color of his briefs to his hobbies and activities. The young Prince knew it had to be done that way because he had far more important duties to attend to, like deciding whether or not his kingdom should go to war or managing commerce throughout the kingdom. Which is obviously more important than deciding if he should practice fencing or horseback riding that particular day. Still, it all felt suffocating to Ashton, he felt like he wasn't in control of his life. After all, his mother was the ruler of Aster, not him, well at least not yet. He wanted to have some type of freedom before he would be crowned King and lose any small chance at freedom he had. Which is why the Prince would always manage to skip one of his lessons at least once a month to go explore the villages surrounding the palace. He would make up an excuse to sneak away from his duties and have a look into town, but not before stealing some of the butler's plain clothes from the drying line so he would blend in and not be recognized. Ashton would always be mesmerized by the town life, all the different people, different sights, and different noises, quite different to life in the castle which was usually colorless and dull. Today, however, the town seemed dreary in the Prince's eyes. Despite the chatter and joy running through the village, Prince Ashton felt quite the opposite. An hour earlier, the Queen called him into the dinning room, claiming she had exciting news for Ashton.
"You are to be married to the youngest Princess of Viria," the Queen stated.
"Mother! What words are coming out of your mouth? What do you mean?" Ashton asked. His mother's simple statement catching him completely off guard.
"Well, actually, you have been betrothed to the Princess since you were both born" the Queen explained calmly.
"Then why am I only hearing of this until now?" Ashton still didn't understand the situation completely.
"It was a very loose arrangement. See, if the Princess would have had a suitor or any sort of love interest before she was 21, the engagement would have been off. However, the Princess just recently turned 21, and you are both still single so the King and Queen of Viria, along with me, decided it would be best if you two married." As the Queen explained all of this to Prince Ashton, he couldn't believe it. He was now engaged to someone he had never even met, granted he may have seen her a few times at royal balls or something but still. He was gonna be forced to marry someone he didn't love. Ashton was still trying to process this when his mother spoke again, "I know this is an enormous surprise, but please know I am doing it because I love you. Just give the Princess a chance and maybe in the end you will begin to care for her."
"I highly doubt that mother" Ashton replied sharply.
The Queen sighed, "The Princess will be here in an hours time, or maybe less, so please be ready to-"
Ashton didn't stay to hear the rest of what the Queen had to say. He was out of the castle doors before she even finished her sentence.
That's how the young Prince ended up sitting in an alley, contemplating his options. He had come to the conclusion that he would have to marry the Princess of Viria or give up the throne, which he couldn't do because his siblings were far too young to run a kingdom on their own. He sighed and stood up, adjusting the old, dirty cloak he was wearing. It was the only thing he could find to wear that would cover up his royal attire and wouldn't reveal his identity. As Ashton walked out of the alley, his mind was elsewhere, his thoughts scrambling to find a solution to his current predicament, but sadly there wasn't any other solution other than marrying the Princess. Distracted and not really paying attention to where he was going, Ashton bumped into someone, causing them to fall.
"Oh, forgive me. I have a lot on my mind and didn't realize where I was going" Ashton said to the young girl he ran into, helping her get back on her feet.
"It's quite alright," the girl smiled, she was about Ashton's age and very beautiful, "they are called accidents for a reason." The girl laughed lightly. She looked at the Prince and gasped, "Prince Ashton?" The Prince, stunned that someone recognized him, pulled the young girl back into the alley.
"Who are you? How do you know my name? Speak! I could have your head!" The girl only laughed and shook her head. "Why are you laughing? Answer my question! I command you!" Ashton hollered. He didn't know how this strange girl recognized him, no one in the kingdom knows what he looks like, for safety reasons of course. The girl looked familiar, but he didn't know her and for all he knew she could be plotting something against him or worse.
"Look, all I'm saying is that the next time you want to sneak around outside the castle, you should maybe consider taking off your crown."
Wide-eyed, Ashton felt the top of his head and sure enough on top of his curly hair was his crown. He was so angry with his mother and in such a rush to leave the castle he must of forgotten to take off his crown. Even in commoner's clothing everybody would recognize him with the expensive piece of headwear on him. The Prince could feel the blush rise in his cheeks, "Oh, I was just kidding about the 'having your head part." He chuckled awkwardly.
"Yeah sure," the girl replied then held her hand out, "give it."
Aston looked at her dumbfounded.
She sighed, "You don't want to get recognized right? Well, give me your crown and I'll place it my bag" she said, motioning to the bag wrapped around her body.
"How do I know I can trust you? I don't even know your name! You might just steal my crown and sell it!" Prince Ashton argued.
"First, my name is (Y/N). Second, who am I going to sell the Prince of Aster's crown to? I'll be thrown to jail and accused of theft! Plus, you are obviously trying to keep your identity a secret and how do you plan to do so with that with a shiny gold crown in your hands?"
The Prince groaned, "Fine, I trust you (Y/N). Please do not make me regret my decision," the Prince handed her his crown. (Y/N) took it and carefully placed it in her bag. "Well, looks like you are stuck with me for the day because I do not plan on going back to the castle for a while." Prince Ashton sighed.
"Hey look on the bright side! You can show me around your beautiful kingdom." (Y/N) smiled.
"You are new around here? You look familiar, I thought I might have seen you around the market place or something." Ashton asked, he couldn't really place it, but he knows he's seen (Y/N) somewhere before, he just doesn't know where.
"Oh, uh, I come visit my cousin here a few times a year, so you've probably seen me then! I still do not know my way around here though." (Y/N) laughed softly.
"Well, let's get going then," Prince Ashton said as he grabbed your hand, pulling you out of the alley and into the streets of the town, "I've got a beautiful kingdom to show you."
Part 2 was never posted. So personally, I'm going to assume (Y/N) turns out to be the youngest Princess of Viria and they fall in love and live happily ever after - DevilishTori
