"Excuse me, prince. The queen needs you downstairs urgently." A servant pushed open Ashton's bedroom doors. His face was filled with horror as he inhaled and exhaled deeply from running up the palace stairs. "I'll be right there servant, thank you." Ashton checked himself in the mirror once more before heading down to the dining room.

"Mother, you called me?" "Yes I did Ashton. They're trying to take over the kingdom." Ashton watched intensely as his mother paced back and forth, her shoes making a clicking noise on the floor. "Who exactly are we talking about?" "Y/n's family. They're trying to take over, and I'm not sure if we'll be able to stay in the throne much longer."

Ashton's eye widened when his mother said Y/n's name. Ashton knew she was a princess, but he never knew her family was trying to take the throne from his mother; they had their own, but theirs wasn't as big as Ashton's family's. Ashton gulped as he reassured his mother everything would turn out alright. "Servant, come with me." Ashton lead him out into the hallway so they were alone.

"What is it I can do for you prince?" "I need to see Y/n again." His servant nodded before taking him out into the car sitting outside. "Ashton where are you going?" his brother, Harry asked. His sister, Lauren, trailing behind him. "I have some business to attend. Tell mother I'll be home before lunch."

The ride to Y/n's palace was slow due to the overwhelming traffic. As they arrived, Ashton spotted Y/n sitting out on the steps, fanning herself with her mother's old handheld fans. "Y/n." "Ashton, what are you doing here? My parents are inside." "I need to speak to you. It's important."

Y/n dragged Ashton behind a tree, glancing around to make sure none of her gardeners were around. "Did you know your parents are trying to take over the throne from my mother?" Ashton asked, his heart shattering over the thought that she might have already known. "I didn't even have a clue Ashton. If I knew, I would've told you."

Ashton and Y/n had been secretly dating for the past few weeks after they first met each other during a dinner. They couldn't tell their parents because it would cause a bigger feud between their families, even though Ashton's mother liked Y/n. But it's perfect, a prince and a princess, if they get married, then, each family has the bigger kingdom. It just wasn't that simple.

"Ashton, there isn't anything we can do to change it. We are like Romeo and Juliet, we can't be together." "Y/n, I'm going to find a way for you and me to be together and both of our families share the throne."

"Y/n! Where are you darling?! Lunch is ready!" "I have to get going Ashton. Please try. I love you." Y/n kissed Ashton's burning cheek before disappearing inside. "Are you okay prince?" "I'm fine, I'll find a way." "I sure hope so." The drive back seemed so much faster, maybe because Ashton's brain was trying to find answers to solutions he wasn't sure he could solve.

"Oh Ashton you're home! Just in time for lunch" the cook spoke with a smile, placing food neatly onto a crisp clean plate. "Where did you go Ashton?" his mother spoke loudly as she walked into the room. "I went to talk to some people." "Please don't tell me you went over to Y/L/N's palace." Ashton couldn't lie to his mother, she was everything to him.

"I did, but for more reasons than that." "What do you mean?" Ashton blinked slowly before he revealed the truth. "Mother, I have an idea. I'm not sure if it will work." she looked at him, waiting for him to continue. All eyes at the dinner table were staring at him, which made him more nervous to share his plan.

"I've been seeing Y/n. Before you say anything, I didn't know they were trying to take over, we both had no idea. What if her and I got married? Then the throne would be shared?" "Ashton I would love that, but that family would not approve of it."

He knew his plan was a long shot, but he wanted to do everything he could for his mother. He just had to think of something else before time runs out.
