(P/N) - Princess's Name (Add in the name of your rival??? I honestly just can't think of generic names XD)

(D/N) - Duchess's Name (Same deal)

It was announced to Prince Luke during dinner with the family. "Luke, you will be in an arranged marriage to the princess from the neighboring kingdoms," King Andy says casually, and Luke coughed almost choking on his food. You stood there by the door with another guard and listened into the conversation. "I don't even know her and you expect me to marry her?" Luke says. "Luke, she's a lovely girl trust me," Queen Liz insists. "Says who? What if she is secretly an evil princess that plans to poison all of us and take over the kingdom?" he accuses. "Don't let your imagination run wild Luke," Andy says. "Later in the week you will meet her and improve your chemistry," He says before ending the discussion. You escorted Luke back to his room. He continued to pout and throw small fits like kicking air and walking around fidgeting. "Prince Luke, you know, I believe she will be a lovely girl for you." you said. "Have you met her?" "Well no-" "Then that statement is false till proven true," he says before sitting on his bed. "Prince Luke, what is on your mind?" you said leaning on the wall. "I just thought that...Nevermind it's stupid," he says looking away with a slight blush. "No, tell me." you insist. "I just...thought that I would find my princess like how my brother did his. He chose to marry her, and for me...I have no choice at all," he says and looks at you. "Well you know...There are those cases where you will learn to love that person," you said trying to be a little encouraging. "What about you?" he asks. "What about me?" you wondered. "How do you feel about me being in this whole affair?" he questioned, and you were trying to process his question. "I...I am in no position to answer that Prince Luke...What do you mean?" you said stuttering. He gave you a sad smile and waved off the question. "It's nothing really, I was just thinking out loud," he says. "That is all for today, be safe going home (Y/N)," he says, and you nodded. The walk home wasn't as peaceful, somehow there were a lot of couples taking late night walks and passing by you. Luke's expression was stuck in your memory, his question echoing in your head. What about you? Why did he ask such a question to you? How were you supposed to answer it? Did he want you to stop it, somehow tell him that you loved him and didn't want him to get married to a stranger? You thought and accidentally walked into the door. Wait, love him? Did you love Luke? You questioned to yourself. Your mother opened the door and let you in. You absentmindedly sat down and ate the food that was given to you. Your heart was beating fast in your chest. "This feeling?...No, no it can't be. It will go away," you thought to yourself and started to eat the stew your mother made. The beating continued, it started to beat so loud that it was deafening to your ears. You sat there frozen at the sudden realization that the beating will never stop, the realization that you really did love Luke. You felt yourself tip to the side and fall to floor. "(Y/N)! Sweetheart are you okay?" your mother says frantically. "Suffocating, my chest feels suffocating," you said. "Take her upstairs and help her out of her armor. I'll make something warm for her," your father instructed, and your mother helped you up to your room. When you were changed, you laid snuggled in your bed in a daze. "Well, you aren't sick," your mother says checking your temperature. Your father came into the room and gave you tea and left you to the care of your mother. "Maybe you are working too hard?" she wondered. You were silent and showed an anxious expression. "Mom..." "Yes (Y/N)?" "How was it like...falling in love?" you questioned. "Love?...Wait, is that why you acted the way you did? Oh sweetie, this boy must have really gotten to you if you felt so suffocated," she says excitedly. "Mom, please answer the question. "Hmm...Falling for your father was the same feeling you're having right now. Your chest feels tight, your face grows warm, and you end up being the most clumsy person in the world when you think about him..." "I-I want this feeling to go away," you said. "Oh sweetie but why?" "I can't have feelings for him," you said. "Do you feel you aren't good enough? (Y/N) I assure you any guy would-" "No mom, I mean I shouldn't have feelings for him. It will be against my code. If I have feelings for him, I-I'll..." you said feeling frustrated. Your mother was silent and rubbed your head kindly. "It's the Prince?" she guessed, and you nodded. "...But you know, I heard from your father and the other knights, the Prince is to be engaged," your mother says, and you nodded and looked at her. "I know. I know he is, but he disproves of it. Prince Luke doesn't want to get married, and when he told me, he asked me how I would feel if he got married." "Did you answer him?" "I didn't say a thing. I was too flustered and confused...But mom, the way he looked at me when I passed on the question, he looked like he wanted me to stop him, like he wanted me to tell him to not get married..." you said before covering your face. "(Y/N)...This is a frustrating time...You having to choose between knighthood and womanhood...I knew these two worlds of yours would clash...But listen to me, a maiden's love or not, you have a duty, you are a knight and you have a code...You can't interfere with such affairs sweetheart," she says. "This love is hopeless..." you said, and she sat there silent. "So what do I do, bite my tongue and let it happen, even if he is not happy?" "Your duty as a knight is to protect him (Y/N), not make him happy." "It's never been that way between me and him," you pointed out. "Then I don't know what you want me to say (Y/N)...You developed these feelings and you need to sort them out yourself...I could only be here to comfort you as your mother..." she says and stands up to leave. When work resumed, the topic of the arranged marriage was never brought up again between you and Luke. He seemed to accept his fate to marry a stranger, and you couldn't give him your opinion without stepping out of line. At the end of the week, the Princess arrived before the royal family. She was beautiful and elegant like a princess should be. She was not covered in sweat and dirt like you. She was clean and well mannered. You were given the duty to protect both of them from a far, and you did. Each step you walked behind them made your heart hurt. The lack of space between them, the small conversations, and them gazing into each others' eyes. Reality hit, this was how it was supposed to be. The Prince marries the Princess, and the knight protects the both of them to ensure their love is eternal.
