P/N - Princess's Name

D/N - Duchesses Name

You wanted to visit the castle again, but not like this. You stood in front of the royal family who argued with Prince Calum, scolding him for being reckless and ruining the family name. "I've tolerated you sneaking out into the village, but this is too much. Calum, you are going to get married and this...This cannot happen, not when the date of the wedding is fast approaching," his father, The King, said in a worried and frustrated tone. "I barely know (P/N)..." Calum pointed out. "You've known her for a week, that is plenty of time!" his parent's insist, and Calum shook his head feeling frustrated. "Has it ever occurred to you that I never wanted this life? Staying cooped up in a castle with high walls is so suffocating. What makes you think that I will be right for the kingdom? Is it because I am a boy? The first son? Mali is older than me, she's the first child! I believe she could rule this kingdom better than me, with or without a husband," Calum says. "I second that notion, just saying," Princess Mali-Koa added but looked away when both of their parents were eyeing them. "Calum you don't understand, we are breaking traditions, we are going to ruin the bloodline," the Queen tries to explain. "Mum, Dad, I don't love (P/N)," he states calmly. "She's a Princess, you're a Prince, it is meant to be this way," the King says. "I don't want her to be my queen," he says. "You will learn to like her," the Queen suggested. "Why can't I just be with (Y/N)?" he asks with his voice rising slightly. "Because she is a peasant!" they say in unison, and the room fell silent. The King was getting impatient with Calum and left the room to cool down. The Queen sat on her throne trying not to cry frustrated tears. "Calum, the two of you were born in different classes in this kingdom. She was born to make bread and you, you are born to rule this kingdom. The two of you have different responsibilities. She has no knowledge or skills to rule a kingdom, she is not fit. If she was only born to be one of us, then maybe...Calum, I'm sorry," she says with sympathy in her eyes. "(Y/N) was it?" the Queen asks and looks at you. "Y-Your majesty," you said with your heart racing worried on if you will be punished or worse. "You are the daughter of those two bakers at the end of town yes?" she asks. "Yes your majesty." "I always took my daughter and son there when they were young...(Y/N), what do you do in that bakery?" "I-I help my family with the fresh baked breads...Loafs of pound cake and other baked goods..." you answered. "Do you dislike this lifestyle of yours?" she asks, and you took a moment to think. You remembered since you were young that you wished to be royal, live in something so spacious and and grand, but after today, observing Calum and his family, what little freedom he really has, made you not want a life like this. "I don't dislike my life, I am happy to be a daughter of two bakers and own a little shop just making bread..." you answered honestly. "Then I hope you don't resent me for what I'm about to say...(Y/N), by order of the Queen, you are forbidden to step foot in this castle ever again. You are forbidden to see Calum, and he is forbidden from visiting your bakery...If this order is broken, then I'll be sure to see that your bakery will be moved 5 kingdoms over...I'm sorry (Y/N), you must understand what situation we are in at this moment...So please..." she begged, and you stood there stunned. Your head was filled with the orders she demanded you to follow, you found yourself nodding, her rule was absolute, her words so powerful that no one could deny it. "Guards, please escort (Y/N) back to the bakery..." she ordered before standing up and leaving. You felt a strong hand on your shoulder guiding you out of the room. Calum was calling your name and grabbing your hand, but you couldn't respond and give him a reply. Reality hit you hard, the Cinderella spell was broken. This is the part where you go back to your everyday life... "Baker's daughter huh...That's a surprise," Mali- Koa says to her brother who looked crushed. "Is this your way of making me feel better?" he says with a hurt expression on his face. "I don't have to do anything little brother, you got yourself into this...I honestly thought that (P/N) was your type of girl..." "I got tired of those type of girls, them falling for every charm and letting me get away with it so easily...(Y/N) never made it easy...and that's why I liked her for it..." "So you decided to like her despite your social differences...?" she questions, "Were you even thinking when you made this decision to like her?" "M-Mali can you not right now?" "No Calum, I want you to give me an answer, do you really like her? Did you think about what would happen if both of you tried to make this relationship work? Did you?" "Yes alright? I did think about this, I did think before starting anything with her, I want to be with her, my mind is made up." "Then why didn't you fight for her harder in front of mom and dad? Your arguments and reasoning fell short, you expect to convince them like that?" she questioned, and Calum stood there thinking of what the strongest move he could make at this time. "If I wanted this to work then...Then I'd have to...Mali I can't just abandon my title...Can I?" Calum questioned. "It's just words Calum, a title is just words formed from letters. It means absolutely nothing," she says before standing up. "You want to be with her? Fight for it, throw away your title, deny your name, prove it to mom and dad..." she says before leaving. "Oh, and you didn't hear this from me," she says grinning at him and closing the door behind her. It was like Mali-Koa to be reckless and daring, it was her guidance that taught Calum all the right places to sneak out of the castle effortlessly. Calum knew she was right, it was just a title, he can abandon it. "Prince Calum? There was such a commotion earlier and yelling, I just wanted to check if you were alright?" (P/N) says letting herself in the room. "We need to talk," he said bluntly to her, ready to fill her in with how he really feels.
