Prince!Michael was a mystery to the kingdom. Only on his birthday would he really be seen. And even then he would usually stay on the balcony, up high looking over the party, never joining in on all the fun and festivities. Under the rule of Michael's father, he believed everyone should be able to celebrate with them, if their prince was celebrating something, then everyone could join in on the fun. You were invited to these parties too. When you arrived with your friends, they immediately began scouring out the competition. All the girls were dressed their very best in hopes of becoming the next princess. You were here to have fun, originally you weren't even going to come, but your very best friends begged you to come with them. They even said that you might see the prince; though highly doubtful, you decided that maybe, by some sort of luck, that blonde haired, green eyed, boy you talked to last year might be there. It was a beautiful party, everything was royal blue and gold, probably the prince's favorite color. Usually when the palace was not in celebration, all of the flags would be purple and gold, the colors his parents decided on when they first started ruling. The party was in full swing by the time you arrived, and you couldn't help but feel a little cramped, so you went out into the garden out one of the patio doors and sat on one of the benches overlooking the kingdom. The view was wonderful from out here, you could see the outskirts of the town, to the left, you could see the forest, and if you looked to the right and squinted, you could see some of the boats that were on the dock. "It's beautiful isn't it?" you heard a voice next to you. When you turned, there was a boy, about your age who looked vaguely familiar, maybe you met him before. "Yeah so beautiful. I understand why the prince never leaves the palace, it's absolutely breathtaking." You replied, wondering why he was sitting out here with you rather than being inside at the party. "Yeah, I'd never leave." The brown haired boy was beautiful, his pink lips and his green eyes, his familiar green eyes. "Do you by chance have a twin with blonde hair?" You asked "Nope, don't have any siblings, just me, but it might be me who you're talking about. I did had blonde hair a few months back. C'mon (Y/N) don't you recognize me? It's Mike." This was the blonde haired boy you met last year, that blonde haired boy who spent the entirety of the party talking to, the boy you originally thought was the prince but was proven wrong when he pointed to the figure sitting on the balcony, the boy who you wanted to know more but couldn't because he was visiting from another kingdom. "Mikey it's been so long. I haven't seen you in a year! You look so different now! How've you been?" Finally, you would get to talk to the boy you've thought about for a year, the boy who you snuck out of the party with last year, the boy who you took on a tour of your town. "I've been good, tired actually, I thought about you a lot when I was home, I missed you." Michael felt bad lying to you. He wanted to get to know you, but he had known you for not even a day. Last year when he thought he was caught, he pointed up on the balcony, where his guard was sitting, pretending to be him. You see, the good thing about people not really knowing what you look like, or being fairly far away from everyone, is that you can trick people into thinking you're just a invitee instead of the one throwing the party. Michael learned this on his 16th birthday. He would ask the king and queen if he could sit up on the balcony overlooking the party, get his guard to dress like him, and he would go to the party as Michael, a simple boy who just happened to have the same name as the prince. He did this mainly because he knew that people acted different around him when they knew he was the prince; Michael wanted people to know and love him for him rather than his status. The reason Michael stayed in the castle wasn't that he didn't like the kingdom, or the people within it, it's just, he was really lazy. It was much easier to get things delivered to the palace rather than going and getting someone to go get it for him. "Michael? you okay?" you asked. He hadn't answered your question about where he had been, but had been looking off into the distance for a while. "Sorry, just thinking about something" he replied before you guys started to reminisce. After about an hour, a guard tapped him on the shoulder. "Your highness we have been looking for you everywhere, your mother and father need to speak with you now." Michael knew he was caught, he knew you heard what the guard said. "Your highness? You lied to me, Michael. I asked you if you were the prince, and you said no. Why did you lie to me?" You said before walking back into the party. And before Michael could run after you to explain, he was being ushered off to his father's office.
