part fifty four

The spittering raindrops first started hitting her head, then her arms, and then grew over her slowly.

Completely drenching her to the core.

Sonara sat at the beach, watching the sky meeting the sea through the rains.

People began scattering away around her. But many kept sitting.

Maybe they loved rains.
Or maybe, they did not have the strength to move. Like herself.

Sonara had walked out of the house, straight to her job. Because, she knew, no word, no insult, no taunt, no curse, no emotion was bigger than her need to earn money, and live independently.

But before that, she had picked Humaira up. And took her along.

Brinda tai was extremely surprised yet delighted to find them at her doorstep on Dhara road. Sonara had requested to keep Humaira with her for the day, as she used to do. Though Sonara was almost sure she'd fall ill, because a child's immunity was the easiest to be moulded, but she did not have a choice.
She knew, Brinda tai loved her from the core of her heart.

And these were people she was supposed to be with.

After that she had gone to the confectionery. Did her job without the slightest cringe on her face.

Now, at six thirty in the evening, she was supposed to return to Dhara Road to pick her baby up. However, she was too tired. Extremely tired to even walk....

The rains just went on increasing, and she did not initiate any movement.

Because her mind was wandering distances.

Five more days. Just for the sake of Maya Raichand.
And also, she needed time.
To find a reasonable place to stay.

This time she was terribly practical.
That was the reason she was still returning to the Raichand mansion tonight. Emotions suddenly stopped controlling her. Maybe she had grown strong enough to hold them back.

Otherwise, while walking out with Humaira, she would have taken her luggage along.
She did not. It was not worthy enough.

Jai Raichand, suddenly did not matter anymore.

Yes, good things happened. But didn't stay forever. Humans came and went. And only those remained who're written on the lines of the palm.

Neither could she control her fate, nor wanted to.

Jai Raichand happened to her a few months back on a similar day of rains.

And today, again when it's showering, Jai Raichand stopped happening to her. Completely.

Sonara did not want to interpret his words. Because she knew, the deeper she would indulge in them, the deeper she would understand his real intentions, the cause behind his outburst.

More than anything, she did not want to decipher those. Because that could be dangerous, for everyone at a go.

Somehow, the rains did not even make her shiver.

Her insides had as if suddenly stopped cherishing feelings, both physical and psychological.

Sonara wondered why she hadn't stuck to what she had once started doing.

Distancing herself from the man. The Raichand's son.

No wonder she had seen this coming.
No wonder she knew, that a time would arrive when she'd be shamelessly depending on him for a thing called life, for a thing called......love....maybe...
