Death walked slowly towards her.

She was bleeding profusely and was losing a lot of blood.

And time.

But Death stopped when he felt someone tug on his robes.

He looked down to find her lover, a man her same age look up at him as he continued tugging and pulling his robe feebly as he lay writhing and contorting in pain on the road.

Even in so much pain, the man still continued to stop Death from reaching towards her.

"Not her please," the man pleaded.

"Take me instead!"

Death was shocked and surprised that the man could see him. No mortal could ever see Death in his true form. Only after they had passed away could they see him as he came to proclaim their souls.

But this man was not dead. He was alive, his heart still beating.

"Don't listen to him," said someone from behind Death.

"You've come to take me so take me with you," said the woman.

"Not him. His heart's still beating which means he's going to live. I don't want you to break certain rules and go out of your way to resurrect me from the dead just because a mortal who could see you asked you too."

"I'm dead so there's nothing more to do or say," said the woman.

"Let's go," said the woman and Death turned to look at her in shock and surprise.

It was the same woman who had just died a few minutes ago from the car crash.

Death was surprised yet again because of her bravery.

Normal people would squirm and try to run away from their fate when Death came to visit them but this woman was accepting her fate so easily.

Without showing any hint of terror, regret, or resentment.

"Impressive!" thought Death.
