chapter XXX: the better end of the stick

"Raaa" one of my professors roared lifting my innocent rose off the floor as she squealed in laughter her tail wagging wildly as she bit the woman lightly " alright puppy, you two stay here we're going to go help Glynda " she said passing Ruby to me who happily rapped her arms around my neck letting me bring my arms up to support her up. "I trust you with Ruby, make sure you have some fun" she smiled before suddenly correcting herself "not that kind of fun, Ruby is underage"

I laughed softly at that before adding "wouldn't think of it"

"That's why I like you Schnee" the woman smiled before leaning down and rubbing Ruby's hair "we'll be back in a few hours" she said before leaving, coming back in two seconds later to grab a waterproof while it rained outside.

Ruby just wagged her tail and nuzzled into my neck, making me smile as I carried her through the desolate house "wait here" I smiled laying her down on a chair watching as she flipped herself over watching me as I moved the coffee table and pulled out some mats starting to spread them across the hard wood floor

I watched as Ruby's eyes shine with glee as she realised what I was doing, I smiled at this overjoyed that she was happy with my idea, even more so as she watched her tail in the air and hopped down onto the fome padding that now covered this large room, she giggled and suddenly threw one of her mother's bear skins onto the floor aswell as I got up, fixing my dress and retrieving a box of toys with Ruby's name on it. I just angled the box before flinging the toys all over the mat that I layed down, Ruby almost when mad over all her toys happily running around existed as I sat down with her.

All of the toys where specialised for Ruby's now weakened jaw, it was a little sad that she couldn't have some of the toys she used to but at least her stepmother had the insite to make a effort to change the toys that Ruby dose use. And aswell to distinguish between her mother's and her own, but Summer will destroy these toys because they are softer but Ruby came close once but it proves to be too much of a challenge for the young girl. But as I sat here and watched as my precious Rose trot around with a stuffed crocodile proudly I wouldn't have been able to guess that her jaw was a little off, apparently it has a metal plate in it.

"Ruby, come here" I said softly as I patted my lap calling her over, she smiled moving over with a hop in her step as her left back leg no longer touched the floor... since it was no longer there. The girl just sat in my lap as she played with her toy letting me feel over various scars across her body, she didn't like it all that much when I touched her jaw but it didn't seem to hurt her that much. I smiled as she nuzzled against my chin "How are you feeling today my puppy?" I asked her.

"I'm fine !" She chirped as she wagged her tail "raa" Ruby roared childishly as she tried to bite me with the stuffed crocodile making me laugh as I was poked with its soft snout.

"Alright!" I smirked pushing her down not afride if she hits herself against the ground since I layed out the mats, she giggled as I tickled her sides making her twist and turn as she laughed uncontrollably.

"No fair!" She giggled before she pounced on me trying to tickle me but I just lay there like a heavy log, not ticklish at all "meanie!" She pouted before I picked her up rather easily in my hands holding her above me but not throwing her up in the air like Yang likes to. "Weiss put me down~" she whined trying to wiggle out of my grip, but I just laughed holding her higher.

But as her struggling stopped and she fearfully gripped onto my arms I brought her back down, laying her on my front as I rubbed her back. I'm sure I asked at one point why Ruby was afraid of being held or thrown up In the air, but the best answer was that she just lacks the reflex to stop herself from falling a short distance. Which explains a few things, she just let's herself fall smacks her head against something which she could have caught herself and avoided, but she doesn't. "Are you ok now puppy?" I asked affectionately, she whined softly but a quick kiss on the cheek solved that as she giggled leaning up and giving me one back. "Go on" I sighed watching with a smile as she trotted off to go play with something.
