Something to sob about while we wait.

"When I drift off, I'll dream of you. It's always you."
Tony shut off the recording and slumped against the cold metal.

"Thanos did exactly what he said he was going to do."
The Avengers compound was deserted. Some were turned to dust after the snap. And those that survived—
Well, they could only mourn.
There were no bodies to bury, no need for coffins or graves. They could only turn away every time they saw a pile of dust on the ground, or flinch every time dust brushed past their skin, leaving them to wonder whose body it belonged to.
The Avengers that remained—Steve, Thor, Natasha, Bruce, and (Y/n), along with Rhodey, walked across the dead grounds. Rhodey used his pass to gain access before they retired in separate areas.
"He wiped out fifty percent of all living creatures."
(Y/n) was the first to tap into the system, sending out multiple calls and feelers to all relatives and friends she could remember. She could only stare blankly at the screen as large red letters spelled out CALL FAILED after calling Clint Barton.
"We're stuck in a void."
Her gaze fell upon her left hand, where her engagement ring shone in the dim place.
Rhodey took over her job as she found herself a secluded room. Sitting on a lone chair in a room,
she could only assume was an interrogation room, she stared at her reflection on the double-sided glass.
Dirt was smudged over her uniform and face, her hair was soaked in dust and blood, and she realized that she didn't recognize the scowling woman looking back at her. Her limbs were aching, and the prosthetic wings on her back weighed her down as they laid draped on the floor. The star that made her eyes shine had burned out.
(Y/n) pulled off her ring and let it rest in the palm of her hand, glinting prettily. With a shiver that made her body tremble, she let out a strangled sob."A void we created, because we failed."
Steve had shed tears silently as he undressed from his suit. He donned on civilian clothing. The second he took sight of his suit, he grasped at it and angrily flung it at the wall, the echoed slap of cloth against cement irritated him. He didn't know how many times he would have to get over losing Bucky Barnes.
He didn't have hopes for it to happen again.
Fate had played with him and Bucky cruelly, time and again, predicting their every move and thought, like a puppet-master. Steve thought that fate had been kind to him when he brought Bucky to Wakanda.
And he then realized that fate had just been winding up its strings for the final act.
He had lost Bucky for the last time.
He had lost himself in the process.
Steve Rogers. A skinny, sickly man from Brooklyn with the penchant of standing up for what right. He was the one who believed being injected with the serum would help him make the world a safer place.
Captain America. Initially just the dancing monkey who broke the rules and earned the title. He was the one who ended the Nazi war, thinking that losing his life for America was worth it. He fought for justice and disagreed with anyone who took away freedom.
Nomad. Stripping himself of his title because he didn't believe the Government would use Captain America as the symbol it stood for. They would use it for their personal gains. He was the one who left the shield behind and took care of his team.
