Let's just say that Pepper's rules about behaving seemed to be thrown out of the window. Within the first ten minutes, Thor managed to accidentally rip the delicate menu. When he was given the replacement from Chrissy, he managed to tear that one too. Of course, Pietro didn't mind as long as Chrissy came to the table multiple times.Steve and Bucky talked about the times when they had been to parties in the 40s, and ended up arm-wrestling on the table, claiming that the loser would have to go without dessert, and had to kiss Tony on the lips. The girls were the only civilized ones who just chatted, along with Bruce.
It had given Tony the incentive to try to prevent them, even though he was secretly goading Bucky to lose (wonder why).
Clint has received a tight slap from someone when the poor guy had been minding his business in the corner, but that resulted in him flinching, Kregsby, the toy chick in his arms flying out of his grip and smacking into a glass tumbler. The tumbler shattered on the ground. "Kregsby!" Clint ran for the chick.Pietro's lips stretched into a grin. "Awesome! Chrissy's coming back!" He quickly adjusted his light blue tie as the waitress reached the table, a broom and tray in hand.
She looked exhausted as she bent down to clean up the mess, pointedly ignoring Pietro, who was trying to make conversation. Chrissy sighed and almost finished her job, getting up with the glass shards in the tray when Tony rammed into her from the back in an effort to stop the arm-wrestlers. At the crash, Steve and Bucky stopped the fight and watched with concern.
While he profusely apologized, Chrissy just nodded, politely smiling as he promised to pay for the damages. She got on her knees again to sweep up the mess, and then Pietro paused, staring at the tired girl. After a short thought, he bent down and quietly asked, "can I help?"
Chrissy's crystal eyes fixed on his, as if wondering if he was joking or not, but then she cleared her throat. "You're a customer, sir. Thank you for the offer, but I can handle this."
Pietro seemed stuck on the ground, but then he slowly got up, nodding. When she finished, he helped her up gently, and then smiled sheepishly. "I'm sorry. I—I know I was being flirty and it was making you uncomfortable. So, yeah, I'm really sorry."
Chrissy seemed to relax a bit. "Have a nice evening." She turned to go, but something made her freeze and she whirled back to say, "thank you."
Pietro smiled a little brighter when she returned to work and he sat down.
Steve, ever the team leader, approached Pietro and clapped him on the shoulder. "That was mature of you, Pietro. I'm proud of you."
Pietro held up a thumb. "I had to admit I didn't see it coming. I just realized I was being pretty shitty towards her feelings. Wasn't fair of me, was it?"
Natasha leaned over. "You're lucky you did it just then. I was a second away from dragging you out by your hair."
A jazzy tune halted the conversation, and Steve and Bucky shared a knowing smile. Wanda joined Steve quickly on the dance floor along with other couples.
"Can we order our food now?" Clint whined, gulping down his water like a starving man.
"I'll flag down Chrissy," Pepper replied, gracefully raising her hand when the waitress was in view.
Chrissy was much more pliant and smiley, as if Pietro's apology had worked in making her comfortable. He didn't flirt with her, instead choosing to just smile back softly. "So, what would you like to order?"
