My head was thumping and I had a splitting headache. I could feel someone holding my hand. I took a laboured breath before slowly opening my eyes.
"Merlin's beard!" Draco said with exasperation before leaping forward from the little wooden chair he had been sitting on and throwing his arms around me. I was still a little tender so I let out a small grunt.
"Sorry," Draco said sitting back up.
He grabbed my hand again and squeezed it. He had red bags under his eyes, the ones he gets them when he's been crying.
"What time is it" I said noticing the moonlight glistening through the windows.
"I don't know Harry, but it's after dinner" Draco said looking around for a clock.
A large grin formed on my face.
"What's so funny?" Draco asked.
"You called me Harry" I said pointing out his slip up.
"Oh, well it won't happen again Potter" he replied.
"Why not? Why do you still insist on calling me Potter even though you don't hate me anymore?" I asked looking into his grey eyes. He shrugged his shoulders before saying,
"I never hated you, and I don't know, I've always liked it. It's something only I say, it's our thing" he said giving a weak smile.
"I can stop if it bothers you" he said wanting to make me happy.
"No, it's fine, I like Potter" I said smiling. I looked around. Ron was sleeping a few beds over from me. Well, I think he was sleeping, he was turned away from us and curled up into a ball.
"Is Ron ok?" I asked with a croaking voice.
"I don't think so, he hasn't said a word" Draco said.
"What about Hermione?" I asked.
"After she was pulled off of you Madam Pomfrey placed a tranquillising spell on her and she hasn't woken up yet" Draco said.
"Is she in there?" I said pointing towards a collection of hospital curtains presumably surrounding a bed.
"Dean and Seamus had to wrestle her down here" Draco said.
"How did I get here?" I asked.
"I carried you" Draco said.
"Fireman style?" I asked raising an eyebrow.
"I don't even know what that means but I carried you in my arms" Draco said. I could see his breath it was that cold in the hospital wing.
"Do you want to get in?" I asked.
"Is that really appropriate?" Draco asked crossing his arms.
"For warmth obviously" I said rolling my eyes. He pulled back the covers and slithered in.
"Bloody hell you are cold" I said as his skin touched mine.
"Sorry" he mumbled. Slowly he placed his hand on my chest just under my neck.
"Does it hurt terribly" he said stroking me gently with his thumb.
"No I can't feel it, are there bruises?" I asked. He nodded, I groaned again, another thing for people to talk about.
"Is it bad?" I asked.
"Well with the bruises and the love bites none of your neck's actually visible" Draco said. I chucked a little knowing that Draco would hate not being able to leave his stamp on me for a while. Draco obviously knew what I was thinking and smiled whilst wrapping his arms around my torso.
The click of Madam Pomfrey's shoes against the tile floor made Draco spring out of bed. I laughed at his spontaneity.
"How are we feeling Mr Potter?" She asked holding a clipboard.
"Fine, great actually" I said lying through my teeth. I wanted to get out of here. I spent more time in the hospital wing than any other student in Hogwarts. If I wasn't injured I was taking my injured friend to be treated. I couldn't escape the place.
"Mmm, interesting" she said as a quill made notes for her.
"Well if you say you feel fine then I see no reason for you to remain here" she said looking at me, she knew I was lying.
"Alright thank you, will my friends be ok?" I asked as I got up from the bed.
"That's a private matter Mr Potter, but never doubt my abilities" she said it with a smile so small you wouldn't have been able to notice it unless you were looking for it. She tapped off.
The room began to spin and I lent on the bedside table for stability.
"Potter!" Draco said standing up to catch me.
"I'm fine, I just got up to quickly" I said taking a deep breath. The room returned to its normal stationary position and I put on my shirt and trousers, leaving the rest of my uniform for a house-elf to collect. It was this that made me realise Draco was still in his uniform.
"You haven't changed?" I asked as we walked out of the hospital wing.
"No of course not" Draco replied.
"I don't want to go back to a dorm room without Ron" I said.
"Well I don't particularly want to go to Slytherin, I can't imagine I will be the most popular at the moment" he said.
As we were walking through the corridor aimlessly Draco stopped dead in his tracks.
"I could get some fire whiskey" he said looking at me.
"How?" I asked.
"I know where they keep it for the Slytherin parties" he said, "come on" he grabbed my hand and lead me to an inconspicuous cupboard. He waved his wand and the lock clicked open.
"Bloody hell" I whispered as the stacks of fire whiskey were revealed.
"Where did you get all of this?" I asked astonished with the sheer quantity of the liquid.
W"The Hog's head, various Slytherin parents brought it for us" Draco replied. He grabbed a bottle and said, "come on let's go to the lake."
