Breakfast came to its inevitable end and we all trudged back to the Gryffindor common room to get some last-minute revision in before the exam. Not like it was actually going to help.
Everyone spaced out around the room, I sat on the sofa with a book in my lap. I didn't actually read the title of the worn book, but I presumed it was relevant as I stole it from a stack of Hermione's books.
Draco kept on slipping into my mind. He's alright I thought, I don't feel that he's going to do something awful, normally I've got a sense for these sorts of things, but not today.
Through his coming out he has gained two really good friends: Blaise and Pansy. They are far, far better than Crabbe and Goyle. I'm glad he was able to find his Hermione and Ron like I was.
I snapped out of my thoughts and returned to the book. I read the first couple of words.
'Love potions'
Typical. I skipped onto another page.
We all started to slowly migrate to the grand hall again. The desks were as they were the other times we had exams. I took my seat and faced forward. Waiting for those recognisable footsteps to walk through this hall.
The exam started and he wasn't here. I looked at the ingredients now on my desk. We had to guess which potions we had to make based on what was in front of us. There were always a few unnecessary ingredients to throw us off.
I finished my potion and put a little splash into a glass bottle to be marked.
McGonagall waved her want three times. The first to make our bottles of potion fly to the front of the room. The second to make our equipment disappear. The third to make a parchment full of questions appear.
I started to answer the questions with my quill.
If someone told me a few years ago that I'd end up writing everything with a feather I would have laughed in your face. The magical world seems to have everything, everything but a ballpoint pen.
Looking over a Draco's desk, the equipment still remained with the set of questions as well.
I returned to my own paper, hopelessly scribbling my guesses down.
Suddenly the tapping on the stone tiles surrounded me and whisked around my brain.
As subtly as I could, I turned my head to be confirmed of my suspicions.
Draco strutted to his desk with his head held high. Without the slightly red bags under his eyes you wouldn't have known how torn up he was inside.
He sat down and began to brew his potion, we had thirty minutes left of an hour thirty exam.
I struggled to pull my head back to my own exam.
The next time I glanced in his direction I was shocked yet proud to see that he had finished his potion and questions before everyone else.
He sat in his chair with his legs and arms crossed looking smug.
He caught my eye and winked at me, I felt a smile pull at my mouth.
I waited, anticipating the end of this exam.
The second the gong was sound, to signify the end, Draco and I jumped up and rushed to hug each other.
It was one of those hugs when you're just hoping the other isn't the first to let go. He gently rubbed my back and I let go.
I looked at the rest of the exam hall. Everyone was looking at us, a few with their mouths open in shock, the rest with little smiles. I didn't even want to look at Crabbe and Goyle but I bet they were scowling.
I went back to my seat and Draco to his to wait to be dismissed. Hufflepuffs were already leaving. I looked at McGonagall expecting that teacher's face, the one where you've done something wrong but they aren't actually angry, they just have to pretend.
She completely ignored us, I expect she'll talk to me later, but I thanked her in my head silently.
Her discretion was a very valuable thing to me.
I walked out and waited for Draco. I couldn't spot Ron and Hermione in the crowd of people exiting the hall.
Draco came out and saw me immediately. He had a wide smile on his face. He grabbed my shoulders and pushed me up against the wall, touching his lips to mine.
I felt the stress and tension leave my body.
"Get a room you two," Seamus said with a wink.
Draco looked at him smugly and took my hand.
