Dean and Seamus and I decided that we should take Ron to the hospital wing. He wasn't really in the position to go to lessons. When we got there Madam Pomfrey was confused for a moment, but as soon as she saw Ron's face she gave him a sympathetic smile and allowed him to take a bed. Ron got under the covers and curled into a ball.
We walked away from Ron where Madam Pomfrey asked us,
"how long has he been like this?"
"Well he's been pretty down since the break, but he only got this bad this morning" I said keeping my voice low.
"Has anything happened to cause such a response?" She asked.
"Umm, his girlfriend had an abortion and they aren't getting along. She's struggling too" I said taking a deep breath.
"Has this sort of behaviour happened before?" She said trying to build up a picture.
"No he's not normally like this, it's never happened before" Dean said.
"Thank you for bringing him here boys" Madam Pomfrey said she looked slightly confused that I wasn't wearing my normal Gryfinndor uniform but she didn't make a comment. We all walked out,
"you guys get to lessons, I'm going to get my books" I said. Dean and Seamus walked off. In the rush this morning I hadn't packed my bag.
I pushed open the door to the Gryfinndor common room, where I saw Draco walking down the stairs.
"Is Hermione alright?" I asked him.
"She'll be okay, I've helped her get into bed, but she doesn't look like she'll be sleeping anytime soon" he said stepping closer to me.
"We just had to take Ron to the hospital wing, this is really killing him" I said looking at Draco.
"What's going on between them, like I know the abortion was hard on them both but it feels more than that" he said thinking.
"I think it's lack of communication, they both don't want to hurt the other so they bottle it all up" I said. Draco stroked a piece of hair and tucked it behind my ear.
"Thank god we don't do that" Draco said smiling.
"Well not anymore" I replied. We heard the floorboards creak.
"I think that's Hermione" Draco said. We both rushed to her dorm room evading the staircase trick.
Draco opened the door. Hermione was sitting at her desk frantically writing.
"Hermione, what are you doing?" I asked slowly.
"Studding of course Harry. Exams are soon" she replied quickly.
"We think you need to sleep" Draco said calmly.
"Sleep? Sleep! I can't sleep, I've got so much to learn. There isn't anytime" she said flipping books open.
"Have you taken anything?" I asked cautiously. Hermione turned toward me and Draco.
"Of course not Harry, don't be so ridiculous!" She said grabbing a quill and starting to write again.
Draco and I slowly backed out of her dorm into the corridor.
"What's up with her, she was literally a zombie 10 seconds ago" Draco said fixing his hair.
"I think she's taken something" I said thinking.
"What potion would do that? If I found out I could brew a counter potion" Draco said looking hopeful.
"I don't think she's taken a potion, I think she's taken something muggle" I said getting more and more worried.
I grabbed Draco's hand and lead him to the common room so we would be out of earshot.
"I've seen this sort of thing in films" I said sitting down.
"What sort of thing?" Draco asked sitting opposite me.
"It's a drug people take to study better" I said.
"What?" Draco said as confusion filled his face.
"It's called adderall, it's a stimulant. People use it because it makes you focus. Some of the side effects are: loss of appetite, mood changes, dizziness and sleep problems" I said.
"It would make sense, it matches all of her symptoms, but why does she feel she needs to take it? She's the best in the year" Draco said.
"Maybe she got behind in her studying during the break and felt that she needed to catch up. I know that she places huge amounts of pressure on herself" I said.
"What should we do?" Draco asked.
"I'm not entirely sure. I mean, we could take her to the hospital wing but she'll just take more pills as soon as they let her out" I said struggling to come up with a suitable plan.
"Well she must have gotten them from a muggle place because I've never even heard of such pills. So maybe we should get rid of them and then just help her through withdrawal" Draco suggested.
"And if she gets to much for us go handle there's always Madam Pomfrey" I said becoming more confident. I knew that we could help Hermione and Ron with their symptoms, but if we really needed to tackle the problem as a whole, we needed to stop it at the root. We had to get Hermione and Ron to communicate. I glanced at Draco.
"What are you thinking?" He asked.
"Just ways that we could sort out Hermione and Ron's relationship" I replied. Draco nodded.
"Well first order of business, get those pills from Hermione" I said standing up.
"How do you want to approach this?" Draco said also standing up.
"Just follow my lead" I said walking to Hermione'a dorm.
I bust in, not feeling the need to knock. Hermione was still at her desk trying to absorb as much information as possible. She turned to look at us. Her pupils were large and her eyes were bloodshot. Her hair was even frizzier than normal. She looked broken. She looked crazy.
