We had all finished breakfast, Draco had kissed me goodbye and we were now walking down to the pitch together. The twins were joking around, Flint was still trying to wake up, Wood looked as white as a ghost and I felt awful.
I was so nervous, I had never been this worried for a quidditch match before. I had this sick feeling in my chest and I couldn't breath out fully for some reason. My shoulders were tensed until I felt a familiar hand pat me.
I turned to see Cedric, he has a kind smile on his face.
"Stop being so worried Harry, you're the best seeker Hogwarts has got to offer," he said radiating a sense of calm.
"Thank you so much, Cedric," I said with a shaking voice.
He patted my back before going over to Wood, presumably to try and calm him down as well. Cedric was like that, and I was glad we had him on our team.
We all walked into our changing room.
"Can I have you all standing in front of me ready to listen?" Wood asked.
We all did as he said, it was now eerily silent. We could hear the crowd but they were some far off reality.
"These are my final few years at Hogwarts, and I've only ever hoped, for one thing, to see this school united under the title of the quidditch cup. It is the crown that should rest so tenderly on all of our heads. It is what we live, and what we die for. I for one, carry it with me always, that hope, that drive, that I know all here today have within them. What matters is that you know, in your heart, that today you are a team, you are a school united. You are Hogwarts. Each and every one of you holds Hogwarts in your hearts. It is the air between us now. Play not for yourself, but play for the air between us, play for Hogwarts. Fight for this air, this school, this home. You are all great men, but today we will see if you will stay great or if we can be the greatest, standing together, standing for Hogwarts!" Wood said, invigorating every soul in that room with an unbelievable sense of pride and adrenaline.
With that, we all grabbed our brooms and marched out into that crowd, not as individuals, but one impenetrable force.
The roars were the loudest I had ever heard.
Wood walked towards the centre of the pitch with Madam Hooch and Fleur.
"I want a clean match alright?" Hooch shouted above the noise of the stadium.
Wood nodded, as did Fleur.
"Mount your brooms" Hooch instructed.
I straddled my broom.
Madam Hooch gave a loud blast on her silver whistle. Fifteen brooms rose up high, high onto the air.
We were off.
The four balls were released from the central circle. The quaffle, of course, had to be thrown. The rest of the balls flew off on their own accord.
Flint immediately grabbed ahold of the quaffle and charged his way to the goals. He passed the ball to Cedric who then threw it back to him just before the goal. Flint took the shot and scored.
"TEN POINTS TO HOGWARTS" I heard Lee Jordan announce. The Hogwarts side of the stadium erupted once again. It was nice to see all of the Hogwarts houses together cheering the same team.
I hadn't even started to look for the snitch yet. I instead kept my eyes on Violette Delacroix, Beauxbaton's seeker. Unlike usually, my aim wasn't to catch the snitch but to stop Violette Delacroix catching in for as long as possible. Wood wanted a long game, we needed the points as a buffer. Anything could happen in the Durmstrang game and Wood didn't like that uncertainty.
"TEN POINTS TO HOGWARTS" Lee announced as chambers had just scored another goal.
I swerved out of the way of an oncoming bludger. Just a second later Fred hit it back over to the other side of the pitch.
"Sorry about that Harry" Fred shouted.
"Not to worry" I shouted back.
I took this time to see if I could spot my blond boy in the crowd of people.
I scanned the crowd before I saw him, a huge smile on his face. Hermione was next to him waving a large banner around. And I spotted a few ginger heads next to him. His smile filled me with pride. Pansy was stood close to him, she had her arms crossed but she was holding a small Hogwarts flag in her hand that she waved sarcastically.
"TEN POINTS TO HOGWARTS"
"COME ON BEAUXBATON, YOUVE COME ALL THIS WAY FOR THIS?" Wood shouted.
We all chuckled, which enraged the Beauxbaton team even more.
Cedric and the other chasers were starting to get really tactical. They performed a Porskoff polly perfectly. Cedric few upwards and then threw the quaffle to Flint who was directly below him.
"TEN MORE POINTS TO HOGWARTS!" Lee Jordan said getting evermore excited.
Due to a rouge pass, Beauxbaton managed to get hold of the quaffle. Fleur was racing towards our goal posts. A look of excitement filled Wood's face. Fleur threw the quaffle but Wood used the Finborough flick to block the quaffle with his broomstick, which Chambers then grabbed.
The crowd went wild again. I then noticed that the Durmstrang students were being suspiciously quiet. Annika König had some parchment and a quill in her hand, she must have been making notes on our play. This was bad, due to the way the tournament was going to happen they could see us play before we saw them. It wasn't at all fair.
"TEN MORE POINTS TO HOGWARTS" Lee announced.
***
The match continued like this for quite a while. The score was 120 to us and 10 to Beauxbaton before Wood flew up to me and said,
"Do what you do best Potter"
Those were the words I had been waiting for.
I suddenly dived downwards towards the ground. Sure enough, Delacroix followed straight after.
"LOOKS LIKE POTTERS SEEN GOLD" Lee announced.
Just before I hit the ground I pulled my broom up and started to dart in between the watching towers. I took this moment to actually look for the snitch while Delacroix was too busy trying to stay on my tail to even look for herself. It was hard to look for the small fleck of gold at such speed but Wood had trained me well.
I saw it fly past the back of the Beauxbaton goal posts. I had to make my way through the players and dodge the bludgers a couple of times.
I got within a couple of meters of the snitch, I reached my arm out, I was still too far away. I leaned my entire body forward, clenching my core to stop myself falling off the front of my broom. I felt the cool metal against my hand and grasped it tightly.
I stopped.
I opened my hand slowly and the snitch was resting on my glove. I held my fist up for the crowd to see.
"POTTER'S DONE IT, HE'S CAUGHT THE SNITCH! THAT'S TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTY TO HOGWARTS AND TEN TO BEAUXBATON!"
I couldn't even hear the crowd they were so loud. My teammates flew towards me and began congratulating me.
"Go on Potter!" George shouted.
We flew back down to shake hands with Beauxbaton and do a final few waves to the crowd. It was an amazing feeling, indescribable, it felt like I was king.
We walked into our changing room and there were cheers everywhere. We were all shouting, most of us not knowing what we were saying.
"ORDER, ORDER!" Wood shouted.
"I would just like to thank you all for your commitment to our tactics because they clearly bloody paid off!" Wood cheered.
"WOOOOO" the twins shouted.
"Nice catch Harry," Cedric said patting my back.
"Nice passes Cedric" I replied with a smile.
"DRINKS ON WOOD!" Flint shouted.
