-Alex
Business has been going great for me recently. It always has been good but ever since the opening of RCO it's been even better. I left April's office a couple hours ago. Should I go back? What is she's with a client and I interrupt?
"Mr Reed your father is here to see you." My assistant says while she puts her head in my office. I nod and gesture for her to bring him in. I'm not very close to my parents, Easton is the one who spends more time with them. But no matter how much I distance myself from them, they always put in effort to see me. I don't not get along with my parents. I just don't have time to see them and in all honesty I'd rather spend time with April, for example. I haven't spent time with my parents in years. They visit me everyone now and then but besides that I rarely see them.
"Alexander my boy!" I see my father walk into my office, I stand up and meet him in the middle and greet him. We walk over to the sofa's in my office and take a seat.
"How are you Calum?" I ask while pouring some bourbon in a glass for him. I take a bottle of water for myself and hand him the glass.
"I'm good son." He pauses, "Your mother wants to see you. Properly Alexander, not just a quick drop in to your office."
"I'm busy, I told her that."
"What about weekends?"
"Still busy." I lie.
"Mr Reed I'm sorry I tried to stop her." I look up and see my assistant and April?
"April?" I question which turns my fathers attention to her as well. April smiles at me and then looks at my father and her smile goes away.
"Sorry." She starts, "I thought you were having a meeting with Chris that's why I came in." I look at my assistant and say,
"You told her I was having a meeting with Chris?" Before she can answer April interrupts her, "No she didn't. She said you were just having a meeting so I presumed it was with Chris because you're in your office not an actual meeting room."
I smile at how observant she is and ask my assistant to leave.
"Are you not going to introduce me?" My father says while standing up getting a better look at April.
"April this is my Father." I gesture between the two of them and slightly sit on my desk.
"Calum Reed." He says to her.
"April James." She responds but looks at me.
"April why don't you sit." I suggest. She nods and instead of following my father to the sofa she walks behind me and sits on the chair behind my desk which makes me laugh. I lean back slightly and say,
"Are you enjoying your visit."
"Loving it." She smiles.
"You didn't tell me you had a girlfriend." Me and April look at Calum after he speaks.
"We aren't together." April says.
"We're friends." I add.
"Calum I think me and April are going to get going." I say and stand up. He nods and also gets up. Before he walks away he looks at April.
"April. One of my good friends son is having an engagement party. You and Alexander should come. It's tomorrow." He looks at her hopefully and I glare at him.
"Of course we'll come." April says, smiling.
"Great. I'll give you the details Alexander." He smiles at me all i manage to say is mhmm and he leaves the office.
"April why?" I sigh, rubbing my forehead with my fingers.
"He looked so hopeful when he asked I couldn't say no." She says while drawing circles on my forearm.
"The guy that's engaged tried to buy RCO before it was even up and running. I'm not going."
"Alex." She says and puts her hand under my chin. "He tried and didn't succeed. We don't have to congratulate him on the engagement but we are going. For your dad." She smiles.
Why is she such a good person?
"Also...Why do you call your dad by his name?"
"I've always done that. The only person that I don't call by their name is my mum."
"Is someone a mummy's boy." She teases.
"Don't ever say that again." I roll my eyes and stifle a laugh.
"Can we just watch movies tonight?" She asks.
"But it's your 25th birthday?"
"I know. We can invite Cass, East and Chris over and watch Netflix."
"Is that really how you want to spend your birthday?" I raise my brow and she nods.
"Before I forget." I start, "I got you something, it's a good thing you're here otherwise I probably would've left it at the office." I get up and grab a box from my desk draw.
"Are you proposing?" She jokes.
"Not yet." I smirk and she shakes her head.
"Close your eyes and puts your hands out." She listens to me. I look at the Rolex on her wrist, the one I got her. She wears it everyday, just as I do. I open the box and place it in her hands and tell her to open her eyes.
"Alex." She gasps and examines the gift more inventively.
"After you told me how much Landon's grandmother meant to you I decided to do it. I turned her ring into a necklace that you can wear everyday." She looks up at me and I see tears in her eyes.
"You don't have to wear it. I completely forgot It'll probably remind you of Landon you can give it back." I reach out to take the box from her hands but she brings it to her chest.
"I love it." She whispers as a tear falls down her cheek. I pull her into my arms and she starts lightly sobbing against my chest. I move her face away from my chest and look at her puffy red eyes.
"Thank you Alex. For the necklace and for you." She smiles sadly and cups my face. "Inevitable. Remember?" I pull her back to my chest and kiss her head.
I love this woman.
