LYDIA'S P.O.V

"We want him to stay." Ophelia had been volunteered as the public speaker, she had made her way to the front of the crowd with elbow shoves and easy pushes. "But, we don't want him to be an independent leader."

"And by that you mean?" Braeden stood just a metre or so in front of her, making sure to scan the crowd for any pre chaotic motives.

"We want to form a proper council really, not one that passes strict laws and preaches capitalism, one that works on making sure we're safe and that we're living the best we can in this unfair world. One member from each of our 'districts' you could say, from carpenters to cooks, should be part of this council."

"Councils and laws are two things that have caused our past problems and now you're asking for them to be brought into our home, a place where 'superiority' shouldn't matter? My vote would be to banish this whole leader system entirely. Authority and rules are put in place to be broken, why not get rid of them altogether?" Scott suggested from beside me, his arms were folded and a stressed look was present upon his face. He just wanted these sort of moments to be over.

Stiles had stayed behind with Noah, refusing to put him down or hand him over to another. I think my words had stung him and right now I couldn't even bring myself to look at his face. Not when there was a risk I would see hurt in his eyes.

"Because this wont be a council of authority." I spoke up finally, "It will be one made up of peers, one with no name."

"No name?"

"If you give it a name, you give it a title and you give it power. There should be no different power levels." I continued, taking a step forward. "I suppose you already have some people in mind to make up this council?"

Looking down at Ophelia, she nodded her head and pulled a slip of paper from her pocket. It had rough scribbles on, they had truly thought this through within the thirty or so minutes we gave them.

"Cora, Ethan, Theo, Brett, Danny, Erica, Tracy, Claudia, Gwen, Braeden and Melissa." She listed before flipping over the paper. "Stiles and Scott will also be in this council...as will you."

"Me?"

"Of course."

----------------------------------------------------------------

I'd found myself comfort in Scott's room whilst he spoke to Stiles in 'ours'. I had spent my time flicking through one of the motorcycle magazines that was on his side, my interest didn't peak at all with the words but looking at shiny bikes was appealing enough for a small period of entertainment. Something told me these magazines would be more interesting than those that were hidden under the corner of his mattress. I could only imagine the photographs within those.

"Brought you some tea." Braeden showed in the doorway, two mugs in her hand. "Mind if I join you? The new council have already nearly bored me to tears."

"Well I suppose we'll have to make do. It's what they want." I placed the magazine back where it was when I found it and took one of the mugs from Braeden as she settled next to me. "Are we ever going to move out of this place? It's a depressant in architecture."

"That was discussed within the council. There are numerous apartments popping up within an estate on the other side of town. They're affordable."

"Affordable? Those estates are usually gated off. Privatised."

"Well, I'm sure we're able to tug some strings somewhere."

"Without using violence?"

"We'll find a way Lydia. For now, I want to know what's going on with you. How you holding up?"
