Taehyung POV

It's been days since I last saw him. Or maybe weeks.

I swim aimlessly around in the shallow waters of Jeju cove. The water here is special- it's pure and the salt is more refined. My tail absorbs the nutrients gladly, making the scales glow. It hasn't looked this good in ages. I smile happily, but my smile droops when I realise no one else is here to appreciate it.

That's when I hear a muffled voice above the water.

"Taehyung! Tae, are you out there?"

I perk up immediately, fluffing up my hair, hoping the current hadn't messed it up. The bay isn't deep, so it takes me a matter of seconds to reach the surface.

How quickly time passes when one thinks. As I peak my head above the waters, I see that the sun is beginning to set. The sunshine seems to dye the ocean a warm shade of pink and sunset gold.

I hear splashes behind, me and I turn to see a topless Jungkook running towards me. Within moments, he arrives at my side, me splitting over with laughter.

"Hello, my prince," I tease, swirling my hand underwater to summon air bubbles to keep him afloat. Immediately, I feel his arms wrap around my waist, and his face rests against my collar.

"I've missed you," Jungkook murmurs, playing with the seaweed braided in my hair. "Has your hair always been this red?"

I giggle into his own mop of fluffy black hair.

"The water here is special," I explain. "It makes me look... Brighter than usual."

Jungkook shifts his head slightly, so every time he exhales I can feel the hot air against my neck. We're quiet for a while, just enjoying each others embrace.

Jungkook drags his hands down my back, and I shiver.

"D-don't..." I mumble. "My scales."

I should've mentioned it earlier. It was Blood Moon Month, which was the most sensitive time for any mermaid.

And by sensitive, I meant sensitive.

Jungkook laughs mischievously, keeping his hands on my hips now.

"I won't touch you like that, don't worry," He says. "Unless you want me too?"

I hit him playfully on the shoulder, before burying my face in it. I took a deep breath, inhaling all of his sweet scent. He smelt different than mermaids. Maybe it was just a human thing. But if all humans smelled like this, then Jungkook would smell the strongest.

His hands are suddenly heavy on my waist. I immediately look up at him, and he doesn't make direct eye contact. His pupils are glazed over, as if he's thinking about something else.

"Look at me," I order sternly, and Jungkook does. He's restless. "What's wrong?"

His mouth opens to say something, but he voice comes out cracked and small.

"I wish there was a different way," Jungkook chokes. "You know, to see you, without having to do this."

I suddenly feel heavy myself. Meeting up in secret, having to be apart. Could we really do this... Forever?

Would we fall in love with someone else?

I wrap my arms tighter around Jungkook's neck. I want to cry so bad, but no tears come out. Another one of the downfalls of being a mermaid. We can't cry.

"I wish I was a human every day," I whisper.

"As do I wish I was a mermaid," Jungkook replies, kissing the top of my head. "Fate is a cruel yet beautiful thing."

His hands hold the back of my head, propping me up as he kisses my cold lips. His body is warm like the sea in summer time. Warmer. A different kind of warmth. A warmth that tickles my insides, and I never want to feel cold again.

I feel Jungkook's gaze drop to my tail, and blush tints my cheeks.

"Do all mermaids tails look so beautiful?" He asks genuinely. "Or are they all dull compared to yours?"

"I don't know," I answer cheekily, swishing my tail around his legs, just missing his ass. "You tell me."

Jungkook reaches down into the water, and strokes the flat, wide spread end of my tail. I like to say that is has a mind of its own, especially when it comes to being flirtatious. If I get too shy to talk, I let my body do the talking.

"If you had legs, you would have the most amazing ones," Jungkook says at last, taking his hands off my hip. "Honest to god."

I bite my lip happily, and throw myself back into his arms. It feels good. He pulls away too soon, looking at me mischievously.

"If we have kids, will they have tails or legs?"

"JUNGKOOK!"

I laugh hard, turning around to hide how red I am. I think about his question for a while, and there's something sad and empty about it. Will we ever be able to have kids? How would we take care of them? My face falls again.

Jungkook notices, and he rubs the backs of my hands fondly.

"No thinking about sad things right now," He declares. "Just think about me, only me."

I gaze straight into his eyes, and it's like my throat goes dry. How does he do all these things to me? I've said it a million times before, yet I still don't quite get it. It's different every time, sometimes I'm falling, sometimes I'm flying, sometimes I'm just spinning around and around and I'm dizzy and there are butterflies flying around me.

Either way, it feels really really good.

Jungkook lifts his head from under my neck, and lazily kisses my right cheek, tracing the mole on my chin.

"Mermaids don't lure humans to their deaths, right?" He half mumbles. "Those are sirens."

"Mermaids..." I think. "We have our ways." I tilt my face down, and I only have a few seconds to admire his eyes, before he pulls me into a deep kiss. A kiss so tender, softer than any sea silk. His hot breath grazes my tongue as I swipe it over his.

"I like the mermaid way," Jungkook whispers mid-kiss. "Keep luring me, I think I like the thought of drowning."
