I felt the chair go down, making me more vulnerable in front of both of them.
I saw Noah come on the other side of me so that he could observe my uncle.
"Open please, Willow." My uncle suggested, tapping my lips.
I slowly opened my mouth and watched how Noah's emerald eyes matched the forest green ceiling.
I watched Noah's eyes and face as he was supposed to be concentrating but instead he decided to make funny faces through the mask.
Even though Noah was trying to make me not think about what was happening, my nerves took over and I couldn't handle it even more.
I closed my eyes and just tried to relax as my uncle took forever to check my teeth.
He took his tools out of my mouth and pulled his mask under his chin so he could give me a disapproving look. Noah pulled his mask under his chin, not knowing what was happening or why my uncle was looking at me like that.
"So when were you going to tell me you have cancer?" My uncle just blurted out.
I didn't know what to say, I was just shocked, but wait,
"Uh, how'd you find out?"
"Willow, I'm a dentist, I need access to your medical records for procedures and you are showing some signs of gum disease which associates with heart disease." He said as watched for my reaction.
"Oh" was the only thing I could say.
"Also, where's your retainer at?" He asked me, this time him knowing that I screwed up.
"Uh, you see." I answered as my eyes immediately darted away from looking at him.
"Willow, did you ever get it? You said that you were going to get it once you got an orthodontist closer to the university."
I didn't say anything, which cued him to lecture me more.
"It's been over 3 years, your teeth have definitely changed after your braces were taken off, that's why you need a retainer. Now, you need braces again to correct what they've already fixed." He said, in a very aggravated tone.
"I didn't know I needed to call in my orthodontist because I thought that your retainer would've worked out perfectly. Noah, would you mind if you cleaned her teeth while I make a call?" My uncle asked, but didn't even wait for an answer as he took off his gloves and angrily left the exam room.
Noah moved to where my uncle was just at, as he looked for the materials to clean my teeth.
I watched him suffer for a few seconds before I told him where everything was.
As he got everything he came back over to me.
I opened my mouth, without his request, because it was Noah, I wasn't nervous, until he put his mask back on.
"So you were a metal mouth, huh?" Noah asked as I gave a simple nod.
"Me too."
